Role of automation in creating sustainable materials and processes

In today’s Energy Pod, Scott McKay discusses how ABB is working with NatureWorks to help accelerate the shift away from plastic and towards more sustainable materials, specifically bioplastics - plastics that are made from a renewable resource and can break down naturally. NatureWorks is developing a new facility in Thailand that will use sugarcane as a feedstock to produce 75,000 tons of sustainable plastic per year when fully operational. ABB’s technology will help improve energy and production efficiency of bioplastic manufacturing, expected to grow over 260 percent by 2026.
