Pennsylvania’s Policy Battles: Energy Independence, School Choice, and America 250 | Andrew Lewis

Pennsylvania is “tied to the American story.” It’s the state that gave power to both the first and second industrial revolutions, saved the union at Gettysburg, and hosted the Constitutional convention. In this episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” guest host Jack Fowler speaks with Andrew Lewis, Iraq war veteran and president of the Commonwealth Foundation, about why Pennsylvania matters nationally and how state-based think tanks turn free-market ideas into laws. Lewis highlights Pennsylvania’s historic role, its position atop the Marcellus and Utica Shale, and the opportunities from being a major electricity exporter, while warning that renewable mandates can threaten grid reliability and affordability, citing New York’s higher costs and Spain’s blackout. He critiques Governor Josh Shapiro’s “Lightning” plan to raise renewable requirements and discusses Commonwealth’s policy focus areas, including energy, taxes and spending, regulatory reform, and union reform.
