Snow Globes and Breath: Watching Your Week Settle

Snow Globes and Breath: Watching Your Week Settle

Hey there, and welcome. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. You know, Friday mornings in August can feel like that moment right before a thunderstorm—there's this building pressure, this sense that everything's converging at once. If that's where you are right now, I want you to know you're in exactly the right place. We're going to spend the next few minutes together doing something revolutionary: absolutely nothing productive. Just you, your breath, and me reminding you that relaxation isn't lazy—it's literally how your nervous system heals. So let's start by finding a comfortable seat. Doesn't have to be fancy. Your couch, a chair, cross-legged on the floor—wherever feels like home to you right now. And if you're standing, that's fine too. Just make sure you're somewhere you can stay still for a few minutes without needing to answer the phone or check on something. Give yourself permission to disappear for a bit. Now, take a breath in through your nose, slow and easy. And out through your mouth like you're fogging up a mirror. One more time. In through the nose. Out through the mouth. Feel that? That's your body getting the memo that it's safe to let go. Here's what we're going to do. I want you to imagine your body is like a snow globe that's been shaken up all week. There are little flakes swirling everywhere—that's your stress, your to-do list, that email you're worried about. Right now, we're just going to watch those flakes settle. No judgment. No effort. Just watching. Breathe in for a count of four. Hold it for a count of four. And exhale for a count of six. The longer exhale is key here—it tells your nervous system we're safe. Again. In for four. Hold for four. Out for six. Feel how your shoulders are dropping a little? That's the magic happening. Keep going at your own pace. In. Hold. Out. Watch those flakes falling, falling, settling into stillness. There's no rush. There's nowhere to be but here. And as you breathe, I want you to notice what relaxation actually feels like in your body. Maybe it's heaviness. Maybe it's space. Maybe it's just permission. Whatever it is, remember this feeling. Lock it in. Because this afternoon, when things get chaotic, you can come back to this breath. You can invite that snow globe to settle again. So thank you for trusting me with your time today. I hope you're feeling just a little bit lighter. If this practice resonated with you, please subscribe so we can do this together again. You deserve these moments of peace.
