Are you incompetent - or is your boss just terrible?

Toxic bosses make you feel like an imposter. They gaslight you into believing you're the problem when their leadership is what's failing. Learning the difference saves your career and your sanity. In this episode, I break down how to tell real imposter syndrome from manufactured self-doubt.

Real imposter syndrome follows you. You're objectively succeeding, your boss is supportive, the feedback is positive - and you still feel like a fraud. The enemy is your internal dialogue, and the pattern shows up across multiple jobs.

Bad leadership is different. The goalposts move. Feedback contradicts itself depending on the mood in the room. You're expected to know things nobody taught you. Wins get ignored, mistakes get magnified - and everyone else on the team is struggling too.

Here's the trap: toxic bosses want you to think it's imposter syndrome. Your self-doubt keeps you insecure, compliant, and unlikely to leave. They benefit from it.

So I'll give you the questions that cut through the fog. Do others succeed under this boss? Is the self-doubt new since you started here? Did you succeed in previous roles? Do you get clear, consistent feedback? Your answers point to the real problem - and it might not be you.

Stop questioning your competence when you should be questioning their leadership.
