What Saul calls “good intentions,” God calls rebellion. The lesson emphasizes that good ideas are not always God’s ideas, and partial obedience is still disobedience. Samuel declares that obedience is better than sacrifice, and because Saul rejected God’s command, God rejected Saul from being king. This sets the stage for David’s anointing — not because David was stronger or more impressive, but because Saul’s heart drifted from obedience into complacency. The class closes with a warning for believers today: confidence in past blessings can make us careless, and thinking we “can’t lose it” is often the very thing that causes us to lose it. Obedience remains the measure of faithfulness.
