Episode 26 - Your Divorce Doesn't Have to Become Their Trauma: Protecting Children Through Separation & Co-Parenting with Rosalind Sedacca

Episode 26 - Your Divorce Doesn't Have to Become Their Trauma: Protecting Children Through Separation & Co-Parenting with Rosalind Sedacca

What if divorce itself isn't what causes the deepest wounds for children—but how the adults around them handle it?

In this episode of Way OUT of Childhood Trauma, Barb talks with Rosalind Sedacca, Certified Divorce & Co-Parenting Coach and founder of the Child-Centered Divorce Network, about what children really need when their parents separate.

Drawing on both her professional work and her own experience of divorce and co-parenting, Rosalind explores some of the mistakes parents can unintentionally make when they're dealing with their own hurt, anger and emotional upheaval.

They talk about why children should never become messengers between parents, why badmouthing an ex can place a child in an impossible emotional position, the impact of fighting around children, and what happens when a child begins taking responsibility for a parent's emotional wellbeing.

Barb and Rosalind also explore anger, apology and repair—including why admitting “I got that wrong” can strengthen rather than weaken the relationship between parent and child.

And perhaps most importantly, they discuss giving children permission to love both parents, express what they're genuinely feeling and remain children rather than becoming caught inside adult conflict.

Because separation changes the structure of a family. It doesn't have to mean passing the pain of that separation into the next generation.

What if one of the greatest gifts we can give our children isn't a perfect family—but adults willing to take responsibility for the environment they create around them?
