Bonus: The Fall and Rise of the Buffalo - Travel South Dakota Stories Podcast

If you like Adventure Sports Podcast, then you'll love the Travel South Dakota Stories podcast. You can find their episodes anywhere you get podcasts. Today we're featuring The Fall and Rise of the Buffalo.

Feel the ground rumble and the dust fly as sixty cowboys and cowgirls saddle up to bring in a thundering herd of 1,300 buffalo at the 57th Annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup. But we’re not just watching it, we are in the thick of it as we get thrown around on the back of a truck chasing the herd across the wide-open plains. Listen to one of the riders Molly as she cracks her whip and corals the galloping beasts.

We also meet Lakota rider and manager of Bear Butte State Park, Jim Jandreau, who tells us what the buffalo means to the Lakota people.

At the end of the long and tiring ride we join Molly’s 87-year-old dad, who had just taken part in his 53rd roundup.

Along the way we discover that although the roundup harks back to a different time, the adventurous spirit of South Dakotans that has been a way of life for centuries still lives on. And that spirit is infectious.

“You’re experiencing what you see on TV and the old western movies, the buffalo roaming across the prairie like that. It's that old west tradition that you don't see anywhere else in the world.” – Matt Snyder, Superintendent of Custer State Park

Ep. 441: Free Soloist - Austin Howell

Free Soloing is definitely stupid in a lot of ways. We don't condone the sport. However, Austin Howell struck me as particularly calculated and contemplative in his approach to soloing. Listen in on what goes on in the mind of a free soloist and Austin's thoughts on why the danger is not his forte nor his focus.   DreamingOfGnar.com https://www.instagram.com/freesoloist/ https://vimeo.com/freesoloist Www.TheFreeSoloist.com Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 437: Life Outside the Box - First Solo Human-Powered Circumnavigation of the Globe - Erden Eruc

Erden Eruc has a world-class adventure resume. With 15 Guinness World Records, tens of thousands of miles of first-ever human-powered achievements, and an emotional story that started his journeys, you'd think he'd have a best-selling book and endless speaking engagements by now. As you'll hear, none of these things have come into fruition for Erden. It has been a grind from the beginning to the present. However, that hasn't crushed his thirst for adventure and need for bigger and bigger challenges. It certainly hasn't taken away from the amazing feats Erden has accomplished. Actually, the fact he doesn't have huge sponsors and crowds of fans makes his motivation all the more impressive. What are you willing to go through to chase your dream? Will it be worth it in the end? Listen in on today's episode from someone who knows how lonely it can be on the top.  http://www.erdeneruc.com http://www.around-n-over.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/erdeneruc/ https://www.instagram.com/erdeneruc/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erden_Eru%C3%A7 Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
