/Film Daily is Back! Five Nights at Freddy's Box Office, Looking Ahead to The Marvels, and More

On the November 6, 2023 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor Ben Pearson is joined by /Film staff writer and box office analyst Ryan Scott to talk about the latest film and TV news.

Opening Banter: Thanks to the support of you all, the listeners, The /Film Show is once again /Film Daily! Starting today, we are immediately jumping back to doing the podcast five days a week. We’re going to try to stick to a loose pattern of talking about box office on Mondays, news on Tuesdays, doing a water cooler on Wednesdays, a group conversation/debate/list on Thursdays, and Fridays will be a floating day where we may feature an interview or talk about more big news that dropped throughout the week. I also want to get back into doing big spoiler conversations about major movie releases, so we’ll try to introduce those back into the mix as well and may shift the schedule around to accommodate those as needed. There’s a chance we might miss an episode here or there due to holidays or sickness or just life stuff happening, but we’re ramping back up in a major way.

The reason we’re able to increase the frequency of the show again is because of our ad partners, and because of listeners like you. So if you hear about a product or service that you’re interested in, it’s important to use the specialized web addresses that we provide, because it’s your way of telling our partners “/Film Daily sent me” and it keeps them interested in working with us, which will keep us able to continue making the show. So thank you all very much for listening, and I look forward to getting back in the groove with all of you.

Movies would stay in the theater for maybe a month or more, then go to second run houses where the prices were deeply discounted. Now it seems the studios pull movies just a few weeks before it goes to streaming. But some movies I still want to see on a movie screen. Do you think that something like second run theaters have a chance of returning, especially for people who might have been delayed from seeing the movie in the first 3 or 4 weeks of its release? This Year's Box Office Keeps Getting Worse, New Knives Out Film Gets a Title, DC's Lanterns, Marvel's Vision, and More

On the May 28, 2024 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor Ben Pearson is joined by /Film staff writer and box office analyst Ryan Scott to talk about the latest film and TV news.I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day.In The News: Furiosa's Opening Weekend Box Office Falls Far Behind Mad Max: Fury RoadListener email: Mitch from Yuma, AZ wrote in: Hey Ben and Ryan, I just wanted to hear some more of your thoughts on what you talked about on last Monday’s episode. I was stunned when you said for a healthy box office, the average person needed to see 3-4 movies a year, because my wife and I see a movie at least every two weeks. I know we are above average, but I figured everyone went to the theater on average once a month. My question is, if we really only need 3-4 visits per person per year to have a healthy box office, why have the theaters not figured out a monthly subscription-based plan yet? I know there’s AMC Stubs A-List Premiere program, but I don’t know much about it because we don’t have an AMC in my town, we have a Harkins and a Regal. (My wife and I personally love Harkins.) There was the big fiasco known as MoviePass, but how does a program where you pay $30 a month to watch as many movies as you want NOT work? Give the studios 75% of that subscription, divvied up amongst them, while the theater makes their money on the concession sales, like they always do. The more times people are in the theater, the more popcorn and soda they will buy. I don’t know if you two have insight or ideas on how this could work or why it hasn’t yet, but I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thank you and keep up the great work.Title Of Third Benoit Blanc Mystery Officially Revealed By Director Rian JohnsonKnives Out Sequel Wake Up Dead Man Finds Some New Suspects (Or Victims)James Gunn Reveals The Writing Team Behind DC's Green Lanterns TV ShowMarvel's Vision Series Is Still Floating Around, Now Has A Star Trek ShowrunnerThe New Star Trek Movie Is A Prequel – But Will It Rewrite The Franchise Timeline?Godzilla X Kong Director Adam Wingard Isn't Returning For The SequelThe Godzilla And Kong Movies Need A New Director – Here Are Our PicksLegendary Director Steven Spielberg's (Top Secret) Next Movie Has A Release DateAll the other stuff you need to know:You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes./Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and TV as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify, and wherever you get your podcasts.Send your feedback, questions, comments, concerns, and mailbag topics to us at bpearson@slashfilm.com.
