Ep. 1017: Boating the Mekong River in Thailand - Alonzo Guess

Ep. 1017: Boating the Mekong River in Thailand - Alonzo Guess

Dive into a riveting tale of adventure and self-discovery on this episode of Adventure Sports Podcast. Meet Alonzo, whose thirst for exploration was ignited early on by his father's sage advice and travel stories. From a few eye-opening international trips to a transformative semester in Thailand, Alonzo's passion for travel only grew stronger after graduation.

But it wasn't until he embarked on an epic journey with two childhood friends that his wanderlust truly took flight. Saving up every penny, they ventured back to Thailand, determined to uncover its hidden treasures. Little did they know, their path would lead them to the remote reaches of northern Thailand, where a chance encounter with a wooden boat in Chang Kong changed everything.

Against all odds (and arguably the hardest part of the adventure), they convinced locals to sell them a wooden boat, setting the stage for an unforgettable expedition down the legendary Mekong River. For ten exhilarating days, they navigated its dangerous waters, camping under the stars along the riverbank.

Join us as we unravel the gripping tale of Alonzo's journey over twenty years later, where the call of adventure and the spirit of exploration collide for these young friends in the heart of Southeast Asia's fabled Golden Triangle.

Ep. 597: Retracing the Lewis & Clark Expedition Along the Missouri River in a Dugout Canoe - Thomas Elpel

Ep. 597: Retracing the Lewis & Clark Expedition Along the Missouri River in a Dugout Canoe - Thomas Elpel

Thomas recently became an empty nester and decided a grand adventure was what he needed. He got together with Churchill Clark, the great-great-great-great grandson of Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition to build a dugout canoe named Bella from a 20 foot Douglas Fir.   He traced his path along the Missouri River all the way to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, a 5-month expedition along the same route Lewis and Clark took when returning to the East Coast.  This epic tale includes everything from puppies, bow fishing, and flooded rivers, to quaint towns, and peaceful moments of solitude.  A book about the experience will be released in March of 2020. You can preorder it here: http://www.hopspress.com/Books/Missouri_River.htm  Here’s a short documentary about the experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-JgWTDUta0 Video about building the canoe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CipwviRWeCU His YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/thomasjelpel www.elpel.info www.greenuniversity.com Try CS Instant Coffee for 50% off your first order for the months of September and October only! Ep. 593: Starting an Adventure Travel Company - Jake Gafner

Jake has spent over a decade camping, climbing, diving, driving, paddling, pedaling, hiking, exploring, sailing, and failing all over the world. In his travels, he noticed that there were a ton of folks who booked organized and pre-planned travel experiences and many folks who do completely solo adventures, but not much in between.  After many conversations about the missing travel experience in between the two, he and his wife started Lost Travel Company, a middle ground between planned travel and solo adventures for folks who want a true adventure with the camaraderie of group travel and the freedom to adventure how they want to.  Visit www.lost.travel For info about their adventures www.lost.travel/tracker For the Adventure Tracker Twitter @losttravelco Instagram: @losttravelco Facebook: @losttravelco Try CS Instant Coffee for 50% off your first order for the months of September and October only!
