Ep. 1035: Ultra Running With Multiple Sclerosis - Matt Knaggs

Ep. 1035: Ultra Running With Multiple Sclerosis - Matt Knaggs

Matt considered himself a casual runner, completing one or two half-marathons a year. He was raising a family, advancing his career, and staying healthy. His outlook on life was that it was chugging along, and Matt was content. As far as he was concerned, he “had it all figured out.”

However, as life often does, it threw Matt a tough curveball with what seemed like an unsolvable problem. His balance was off, he was constantly exhausted, and his vision was blurry.

After months of doctor appointments, ER visits, and no answers, Matt was left with a sense of bewilderment about the changes happening to him. After collapsing on a work trip and being rushed to the hospital by his work colleagues, he was finally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and told he would be wheelchair-bound within five years.

Today, we’ll hear about Matt’s journey since the diagnosis, how he got back into running, and how he set his goals far beyond what he imagined before this life-altering news. This leads us to what’s next. Starting June 15th, Matt is planning to run from Lincoln, Nebraska, to Casey, Iowa, in an effort to raise awareness and funds for MS Run the US. You can follow along with his journey here on Instagram, and here to support: Mattruns4ms.com

Ep. 638: Running 30 Marathons in 30 Countries Before Turning 30 - Liz Warner

After running her first marathon in Tokyo after the loss of her father, Liz grew a deep love of running as a form of therapy and exercise. She had a self-proclaimed “addiction” for the high of crossing the finish line after over 26 miles of running, especially in places that were far from her hometown of Atlanta. As she approached her 30th birthday while living in Paris, she decided to join her passion for travel and marathons into an adventure of a lifetime! She committed to run 30 marathons in 30 different countries by the time she turns 30 in June of 2020. Each marathon focused on a different charity and she’s currently raising $100,000 to donate to the various causes. You find out more about her marathons and fundraising here. runtoreach.comInstagram: @runtoreachSign up for the virtual marathon for May 24th! runtoreach.com/virtual-marathonOur Sponsors:* Check out Infinite Epigenetics: https://infiniteepigenetics.com/ASPSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
