Ep. 1047: Skiing all 1,000 miles of the the Iditarod - Sunny Stroeer

Ep. 1047: Skiing all 1,000 miles of the the Iditarod - Sunny Stroeer

Sunny is the first woman to complete the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Invitational on cross-country skis - but she is not a skier. A Harvard MBA and hard-charging strategy consultant in her twenties, Sunny turned her back on material possessions at age 30 in order to live in an Astrovan so she could run and climb full-time instead.

Sunny's overarching passion is to be active and push her limits in the side- and backcountry, spanning a multitude of sports from big-wall climbs over multi-day paddling trips to 100 milers and everything in between, including 1000 mile cross country ski races, though her specialty is the high altitude endurance realm; she holds speed records on Aconcagua and on the Annapurna Circuit and has excelled on high trails in the Colorado Rockies.

Ep. 669: Bringing Adventure to the Masses Through Spartan - Joe De Sena

Ep. 669: Bringing Adventure to the Masses Through Spartan - Joe De Sena

Joe De Sena is on a mission to get 100 million people off the couch through his company, Spartan, the world’s leading obstacle race. Many of you are probably familiar with Spartan, but might not be familiar with Joe. At his core, he’s an entrepreneur that grew up between his mom, a yogi, and his father, a successful businessman teaching him a balance between hard work and purpose. That balance, coupled with his intense desire to challenge himself and others, has led Joe to experience some of the harshest conditions on Earth while completing some of the most extreme competitions. His story has taken literally hundreds of interesting turns and his experiences are too vast to capture here. After a successful career on Wall Street, Joe moved his family to a 700-acre farm in Vermont where they grow organic produce, operate a bed and breakfast, and a general store for Appalachian Trail hikers. This setting was the perfect scenario for the idea of Spartan to be born. Spartan has now grown into a worldwide phenomenon, with over one million annual participants in more than 40 countries. Joe is also a two-time NY Times bestselling author and host of the @spartanuppodcast. Ep. 663: Avalanche Safety Expert - Brian Lazar

Ep. 663: Avalanche Safety Expert - Brian Lazar

While Mason is still out on the road finishing up the coast-to-coast bike adventure, previous Adventure Sports Podcast host, Curt Linville, will take over again today. Brian has been working in the field of snow and avalanches for the last couple decades. He began backcountry skiing in Colorado as a college student, and later as a mountain guide; and as an avalanche educator, curriculum developer, and as former Executive Director with the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE), and member of the American Avalanche Association Education Committee. After a decade or so of guiding and teaching in a variety of snow climates on both sides of the equator, Brian returned to graduate school where he earned a MS in Engineering, studying snow and ice mechanics in Alaska’s Chugach, and conducting research at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research. He worked for many years as a consultant to the ski industry, investigating snowpack runoff and potential changes to seasonal snowpacks as a result of climate change. Brian has been the Deputy Director of the CAIC since 2010. In the summers, you can find Brian complaining about the heat, planning his next trip to the snow, and trying to keep up with his wife Michelle on mountain bikes.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
