This week I'm talking to Philip Mantle about his new book 'UFO Landings UK'.British UFO researcher Philip Mantle began his active involvement in ufology in 1980 when he joined the newly formed Yorkshire UFO Society. One of the first UFO cases that he investigated was that of a landing case in the West Yorkshire town of Normanton in England. This incident took place only a few miles from where he lived. The case in question was to do two things, the first was to confirm that he was not wasting his time investigating this phenomenon, and the second was to give him a lifelong interest in both UFOs and in particular UFO landing cases.This book looks at UFO landing cases in the UK only (with the addition of the Republic of Ireland) beginning long before the modern era of UFOs began in 1947 right the way through to today. Case histories are separated into decades and come complete with photographs, documents, artwork and much more. The case histories featured in this book are looked at for their ‘high strangeness’ value. The late Dr. J. Allen Hynek, the man who invented the phrase ‘close encounters’ suggested long ago that an area of research to concentrate on were the cases which were up close and personal, in others words UFO landing accounts. Dr. Hynek argued that the greater the degree of high strangeness the less likely it was that the UFO case in question could be explained away in conventional terms. As UFO researchers we know that most UFO sightings reported have a conventional explanation and at the end of the day there remains only a few that seem to remain ‘unidentified’. The author argues that the closer the witnesses are to these UFO landings then the less likely they are to have a rational explanation. The high strangeness factor increases in a number of ways, the length of time the UFO is in view, how close the witness was to it, more than one witness being involved and so on. The case histories featured in this book come from some of the authors own investigations along with other UFO researchers, UFO groups, publications and of course UFO books. At no point in this book does the author argue that any one specific theory is better placed to explain these cases than any other. The readers are left to make up their own mind in this respect. Instead, and in keeping with the theme of the book the author has obtained comments from a significant number of his colleagues around the UK and the Republic of Ireland. A wide variety of opinions on the nature and origin of UFO landing accounts are featured in full and unedited providing a fascinating outlook from the British UFO research community. This week I'm talking to Terry Lovelace about his book 'Incident at Devils Den'.This is my true story. Written by Terry Lovelace, a 64-year-old lawyer and former assistant attorney general. In 2012 a routine X-ray of my leg found an anomalous bit of metal the size of a fingernail with two tiny wires attached. What followed were horrific nightmares, spontaneous recall and intrusive thoughts surrounding a 1977 camping trip I took with a friend to Devils Den State Park in Northern Arkansas. For fear of losing my job and my standing in the legal community, I've kept this secret for 40 years. But the 2012 discovery of this object, one and one-half inches deep in my thigh, initiated a flood of nightmares I could not control. My poor health and the horrific memories were the catalysts to come forward and finally disclose what happened back in 1977. My friend and I were on a two-day camping trip to photograph eagles and wildlife. Rather than stay in the campground we chose to drive deep into an isolated area and set-up our camp on a high plateau that offered a scenic view of the wilderness. Late in the evening of our first night in camp, a group of three very bright stars in the western sky caught our attention. Arranged in a triangle configuration we speculated as to what it could be? We eliminated aircraft lights due to the triangle configuration. Then it moved. The three stars rotated as if on an axis and slowly ascended upward. As it rose the three points of light spread apart, each equidistant to the others. The stars grew larger and brighter. As the triangle passed over stars they would blink-out for a moment and then blink-back again as it moved over them. The area inside the triangle was black, darker than the night sky. As the points expanded they were eventually devouring entire fields of stars as it traveled higher and moved closer to our camp. It eventually halted directly over us. It was huge. A third of the sky was covered by this black triangle overhead without a single star in between the three points. It was as if someone had cut an enormous triangle out of a sky filled with a billion stars. It descended until it was about thirty feet over the floor of the meadow. The size of the object was unbelievable. Each side of the triangle was a city block in length. I estimated its height at fifty feet or more. The size of a five-story office building, it sat motionless above the floor of the meadow. What followed was a horrific abduction experience. We both suffered badly from burns and dehydration and were hospitalized for two nights. I was interviewed by special agents from the USAF Security Police's "OSI" or Office of Special Investigations. They mistakenly believed I had photographed the object and I was viciously interrogated by two of their special agents. They demanded my film. My home and car were searched by consent and I was hypnotized to assist my recall. It was a nightmare that left my wife and me sour on the whole UFO and the allegations surrounding our experience. I never intended to tell anyone. But the events of 2012 opened a door to memories about the abduction experience I had long forgotten and had no desire to even remember. In 2016 and in poor health I decided it was the right time to disclose everything I knew and everything we experienced. The piece of metal in my leg was the genesis of this story. There is so much more that happened.BioTerry Lovelace is a six year veteran of the USAF where he served as a medic and EMT from 1973 to 1979. He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology with honors from Park University in Kansas City, Missouri. He completed a law degree from Western Michigan and passed the Michigan State Bar Examination. This week I am talking to Dr. Irena Scott about her book 'Beyond Pascagoula: The Rest of the Amazing Story'.What is best known about the UFO events of October 1973 is the Pascagoula abduction account of Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker. It began as an extremely credible report, but unlike many reports, intensive research has uncovered a number of additional reports of UFO sightings in the area at around the same time. This number continues to grow and more are given here. This has added to its credibility and because of this, it has been termed the best-documented alien abduction account on record.But much is not known about many elements associated with this event. It had numerous unique aspects, such as that the instruments the beings appeared to use to scan the men resembled such modern devices as the computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan. Such unique factors are compared to additional reports from the same time. This may be the first report of a new type of abduction event; there may have been a second abduction, by the same object at around the same time as Parker and Hickson’s. Abductions appear to happen as single events, but this may have been extremely different and the first reported. And there may have even been several abduction attempts on the same night as the Pascagoula abduction.In addition much happened at the same time as the Pascagoula abduction, such as reports of close UFO encounters, a thunderous boom, and similar episodes that swarmed in to bewildered operators in many states across the USA. These events ushered in a massive UFO wave, possibly the largest wave ever experienced and possibly the last wave.The strange boom was no ordinary sound; it was one that, with the exception of the Krakatoa volcanic eruption of 1883, could be the most widespread audible sound ever recorded. It did not happen in some out of the way place; it happened in the nation’s vital centers. It was felt in Washington DC, over areas of the nation’s highest population density, its heartland, and several vital cities.This sound was analyzed according to the latest NASA research on sounds. The boom was quite unnatural and remarkable in many ways. The width of the sound would mean that the object causing it would be many miles high, in outer space, and in a location where there should be no overpressure. However, there was a large area of overpressure such that it broke windows in a swath over at least three states and it appeared able to cause ground movement over a large area. It appeared to defy the laws of physics. Unlike most UFO associated phenomena where there is no hard scientific proof, this sound was recorded on two seismographs, which may provide scientific proof of the existence of anomalous UFO phenomena associated events.BioDr. Irena Scott received her PhD from the University of Missouri in physiology, did post-doctoral research at Cornell University, has been an Assistant Professor at St. Bonaventure University, and has done research and teaching at The Ohio State University, the University of Missouri, the University of Nevada, and at Battelle Memorial Institute. She worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Aerospace Center in satellite photography, was a volunteer astronomer at the Ohio State University Radio Observatory, and has taken flying lessons. Her publications include books, and works in scientific journals, magazines, newspapers, and she was a correspondent for Popular Mechanics magazine. She served on the MUFON Board of Directors (1993 to 2000), is a MUFON consultant in physiology and astronomy and a field investigator.
