Keith Smith has served in the state of North Carolina for over 30 years in various roles associated within the legal community. It was early in my career as a Probation Parole Officer, that I first realized my passion to help others in a way that was both fair and equitable while reinforcing accountability. That same commitment to fair-minded decision-making was later applied to my roles as an Assistant DA and as a Senior Associate Attorney with Mecklenburg County’s Department of Social Services. As an elected District Court Judge, I will adhere to the established rule of law while considering all matters in an impartial manner. I value the work ethic instilled in me by my parents who were of humble beginnings, as they stressed the importance of a strong education, but most importantly, treating people with respect and dignity. The justice system in the United States is an incredible forum and I look forward to applying my legal experience as a dedicated and committed public servant for the state of North Carolina.

He holds life memberships in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., NAACP, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Association of Black School Educators, Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, and Second Ward High School National Alumni Foundation. He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees, Central Piedmont Community College, member of Pi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and member of the Second Ward West Charlotte Men’s Breakfast Club. ​ Arthur was duly appointed and elected to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education. He served as chair of the Curriculum and Instruction Committee, and member of the Facilities and Operations Committee. Nationally, he served on the Executive Committee of the Council of Urban Boards of Education and the Executive Committee of the Council of the Great City Schools. Arthur served on the National Assessment of Education Progress Advisory Committee that established achievement levels for the 1990 NAEP Mathematics Assessment. Arthur served as a guest lecturer at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education and the University of Virginia’s Partnership for Leaders in Education. He served as a resident faculty member of the Broad and Texas Institute for School Board members.
