After his freshman year in school, Sam thru-hiked the John Muir trail (in 2017) in record, early-season snowpack with his father. Sam went on to lead a school-sponsored expedition to Alaska and New Zealand over the next year before his next big adventure: climbing Kilimanjaro (19,341′), the tallest peak in Africa. The summer after sophomore year, Sam set out on his first solo adventure, a 40-day cross-country jaunt across Colorado through the San Juan, Weminuche, Sawatch, and Rocky Mountain National Park areas of Colorado.
