Ep. 568: How an Injury and Opportunity Is Leading Thousands to Learn Snowboarding Virtually - Fraser Johnston

Ep. 568: How an Injury and Opportunity Is Leading Thousands to Learn Snowboarding Virtually - Fraser Johnston

When Fraser Johnston injured himself one summer, he realized that if the same injury had happened during the snowboarding season, he’d be in a heap of trouble. As a snowboard instructor, your body’s health is crucial to earning a living since you need to be on a board with your students. He quickly began brainstorming ideas to help scale his knowledge and passion for snowboarding, just in case.

On top of that, Fraser noticed a huge lack of sign-ups in snowboarding lessons compared to skiing. The cultural stigma of snowboards and skyrocketing prices of gear and lift tickets helped fuel the idea of an economical and virtual way for him to make snowboarding more accessible to more people.

He came up with Watch and Ride, a series of virtual lessons from basic to advanced to teach every type of snowboarder new tricks, skills, and the science behind snowboarding to optimally enjoy their time on the mountain. The business has been growing steadily, as well as his skills in marketing, content-creating, and scale. If you have a love for an adventure sport and want to one day turn it into a career, give this episode a listen! You’re bound to learn something from Fraser’s story.

Ep. 777: How to Finish an Ironman - Maddie Stambaugh

Ep. 777: How to Finish an Ironman - Maddie Stambaugh

This episode is original from Without Compromise. Finishing an Ironman race is at the very top of many endurance athletes’ bucket lists. It’s a daunting goal to put all the training, logistical, and motivational pieces together to pull off such an extreme athletic achievement. For Maddie, it was the ultimate athletic goal. Being a marathoner, she had a leg up on folks starting from scratch, but running is still only one-third of the skills you need for a triathlon, so the math was still against her. Despite many setbacks and many times she could have logically bowed out of training and preparation, Maddie continued through every challenge, even up to race day (the ocean waves were crazy!), yet she successfully crossed that finish line and heard those fateful words, “You are an Ironman!”. Listen in to hear the biggest lessons that Maddie learned in preparation and on race day, and what it takes to finish an Ironman without compromise. Follow Maddie at @marathon_mads94Support Adventure Sports Podcast monthly by going to Patreon.com/AdventureSportsPodcast or make a one-time donation to the show here. To learn more about Athletic Brewing’s award-winning non-alcoholic craft beer, go to AthleticBrewing.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 771: Six Time World Champion Wrestler - Jordan Burroughs

Ep. 771: Six Time World Champion Wrestler - Jordan Burroughs

Jordan Burroughs has one of the most medaled and storied careers of any American wrestler. That feat hasn’t come easy and it definitely hasn’t come without its losses. However, it’s the day-to-day focus that Jordan credits to keeping him on top of the competition, well into his decade-long wrestling career, where he’s still racking up championships. Although this isn’t adventure sports-related per se, I believe Jordan’s life principles and grit is applicable to any hobby, career, or goal you’re setting for yourself.Check out Jordan’s Without Compromise series on Athletic Brewing’s YouTube channel.Follow Jordan on Instagram at @alliseeisgoldTo learn more about Athletic Brewing’s award-winning non-alcoholic craft beer, go to AthleticBrewing.comSupport Adventure Sports Podcast monthly by going to Patreon.com/AdventureSportsPodcast or make a one-time donation to the show here.
