Ep. 888: The Snowman Race in Bhutan - Nate Bender
Nate is a trail runner and climate activist based in Missoula, Montana. His personal and professional focus is to use both his voice as a mountain athlete and skills in marketing & data science to catalyze a climate-friendly world. He races occasionally, but primarily specializes in fastest known time (FKT) challenges and loves the creative process of dreaming up new linkups. His most recent FKT was the first-known continuous linkup of the tallest peaks in Glacier National Park, Montana; a solo, unsupported six-day effort covering 150 miles and nearly 60k feet of ascent.Nate holds a master’s degree in Resource Conservation — which focuses on the social science of climate action — and is currently in an additional master’s degree in Business Analytics. He is a member of the Protect Our Winters Athlete Alliance and also works as the Marketing Director for Footprints Running, a nonprofit climate action incubator. These backgrounds and passions made Nate a perfect candidate for the The Snowman Race, which follows the trail of the famous Snowman Trek, which has been completed by fewer people than Everest. Covering 126 miles (203 kilometers) through the wild and challenging terrains with mountain passes as high as 17,946 feet (5470M) the Snowman Race is an ultra-marathon, challenging the world’s fittest and most elite runners to help raise awareness of the impacts of climate change. Ep. 885: The Sport of Finding Bigfoot, Seriously - Laura Krantz
“There’s no way Bigfoot could be real......at least that’s what I thought.”Laura Krantz is a self-described skeptic. However, several years ago she read an article about Grover Krantz, an anthropology professor and Bigfoot researcher. She thought it odd they shared last names. After more digging, she was surprised to discover that Grover was a cousin to her grandfather. She had to learn more about this mysterious world of folks who believe in the creature but aren’t “crazy”. What she found was fascinating. These aren’t tin hat-wearing antisocial hermits in the forest. They are professors, teachers, forest rangers, and police officers who all had undeniably strange encounters with a creature that they never thought they’d believe in. Laura, a former NPR producer, documented her journey which she turned into Wild Thing, a podcast about the lore and reality of who or what Bigfoot really is and her quest to know more about the folks who search for it. Ep. 883: Using Financial Independence to Fuel a Life of Adventure - Revisited - Chris Mamula
Episode originally aired - July 12, 2019With any adventure, finances have to be part of the planning. That planning can begin months or years before the adventure even begins. Doesn't it make more sense to build a frugal and thoughtful lifestyle that allows adventures to be more realistic, more often? Chris Mamula joins us today to talk about some very easy and key steps that anyone can do to help make adventures more possible in their lives.Chris is an avid adventurer and has achieved financial independence and decided to retire from physical therapy at age 41, giving him years of possible adventures for himself and his family.
