106 | Challenges to Risk Management in Higher Education

This episode features risk management leader Tracey Swift, Editor-in-Chief of a new publication, HigherEdRisk. Previously, Tracey was Executive Director of Risk Management at Arizona State University, where she led the university’s risk management and insurance functions. In this episode we explore the differences between academia and corporations in managing privacy, cybersecurity, and AI risks, the role of the board of trustees and university leadership, and the challenges associated with open networks, collaborative research, shadow IT, and resource pressures. AI has opened up new opportunities and challenges and academia has been one of the first to feel its impact, making higher education more advanced in AI governance than many private sector organizations.
