Refresh Your Coaching Practice Series (01): Introducing the Thrive Model: Growing a Thriving Coaching Culture 2025

Our topic for episode 1 is Growing a Thriving Coaching Culture: Introducing the Thrive Model for Sustainable Instructional Coaching. This episode shares an overview of the Thrive Model for Sustainable Instructional Coaching that will set the stage for all other episodes in this series.

Kim developed the Thrive Model after a decade of working with coaches and school leaders around the world. It brings together all of her own experience as an instructional coach, as well as the experiences of her clients, and all the expert guests she's interviewed on this podcast.

We use this model to structure all of our courses for coaches, and in particular The Coach Certificate and Mentorship Program. You’ll get an overview of the model in this series, and how the three elements of Clarity, Consistency and Community can be used to develop and refine your individual coaching practice and your coaching program in your school.

This series is designed to be an annual refresh of your coaching practice - even if you’ve heard some of the episodes before, every time you listen, when you reflect back on your growth over the last academic year, you’ll be able to take something new away to apply in your practice in the next academic year.

The Importance of Self-Care for Instructional Coaches with Cindy Tisdall-McPhee

The Importance of Self-Care for Instructional Coaches with Cindy Tisdall-McPhee

In today's episode we’re chatting with Cindy Tisdall-McPhee, Head of Counseling at UWC Singapore. This was a powerful conversation, highlighting the importance of self-care in a coaching role. Cindy reminds us that taking care of ourselves, allows us, as coaches, to be better engaged and present at work, and when you’re present, it’s easier for staff to approach you. There are so many specific and authentic examples of how coaches can work with counselors - from supporting parents, to helping ease the transition to (or away) from a school for students, to connecting the social and emotional elements to, our often, skill-based work around digital citizenship. This conversation sparked so many great ideas that we are inspired to create a follow up series, don’t miss it! Full Show Notes: https://coachbetter.tv/episode-46/

Instructional Coaching is an "Intellectual Spa"! with Niki Dinsdale

In this episode of #coachbetter Kim chats with Niki Dinsdale, University Advisor at UWC, SEA. During their conversation Niki described coaching as an “intellectual spa” (which is now Kim’s new favorite metaphor for coaching!)Niki believes that coaching is a critical opportunity to stop and deeply reflect on our own professional “habits” that have been built over time. Niki thinks coaching can almost be self-indulgent because of the many great benefits that come from a meaningful relationship, full of thoughtful conversations, with a colleague who is focused on helping her achieve her own professional goals. If you’re not sure coaching is for you, this conversation with Niki will likely convince you that it’s time for your own “intellectual spa” experience!  Full Show Notes Here: https://elpn.edurolearning.com/coachbetter/episode-39/
