Did The Last Jedi Trailer Spoil The Movie? 4DX, Rotten Tomatoes, Marvel, Stephen King, Addams Family, Catan, Gambit

On the October 13, 2017 episode of /Film Daily, Peter Sciretta is joined by Hoai-Tran Bui and Chris Evangelista to talk about the latest news, including another Stephen King adaptation, The Addams Family animated movie, the first tv show to be screened in 4DX, a Settlers of Catan movie, Gambit gets a release date, Martin Scorsese takes on Rotten Tomatoes, and Kevin Feige considers a Marvel-only convention. And in the mail bag, we’ll be taking a look at some e-mail reactions from our spoiler discussions. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). In the News: ‘Gambit’ Release Date Now Set for 2019 ‘The Addams Family’ to Get Animated in Movie by ‘Sausage Party’ Director WTF: ‘Lucha Underground’ Will be the First TV Show Screened in 4DX They’re Making a ‘The Settlers of Catan’ Movie and That’s Kind of Weird Josh Boone to Adapt Stephen King’s ‘The Talisman’ Martin Scorsese Pens Essay Calling Rotten Tomatoes ‘Hostile to Serious Filmmakers’ Kevin Feige Wants a Marvel-Only Convention Like Star Wars Celebration In The Mailbag: Three e-mails in reaction to our spoiler discussions: Sterling from Dallas: I vehemently disagree and was hoping someone from the Jeff Cannata camp would join and be the voice of reason. Yes, a great movie will be great regardless, but avoiding spoilers is about the experience. (shocked by spoiler moment in IT) Knowing that in advance wouldn't have ruined the movie, but it would have changed how I felt while watching it. Yes that was just a moment but how many moments does it take for a good movie to turn great? Logan in Seattle writes in: “I used to think less was more, not ignoring trailers completely, but not watching more than one for a film. Now I see what you mean by enjoying the lead up as part of the journey to the film, instead of as a separate experience. I'm not a STAR WARS super fan, but I love the buzz of this industry of film so much that I can't help but be sucked into the vortex surrounding something as massive as this. So last night I watched the trailer multiple times and listened to your emergency coverage of it. Now I understand. Now I too am fully invested in all the theories and news that may come over the coming months. Stephen from San Francisco writes: “As you've discussed in the modern info era it is hard to stay "clean" as Rian Johnson states. (he didnt want to watch but watched) 2 minutes later and I find myself feeling anxious/frustrated that maybe I had just seen too much... Do you think The Last Jedi trailer showed to much of the story progression? Especially with the Rey v Stoke scream and Kylo reaching out for Rey scene? Do you think when something this large goes out it is impossible to stay "clean" in a world were even my grandma calls to ask if I saw it? Am I crazy for even feeling like this? We will likely see more black heroes on screen: Shuri as Ironheart? https://twitter.com/Bosslogic/status/964768497468239872 Blade? War Machine? Falcon? Assuming Cap, Thor, and Tony all die or don’t return after Avengers 4, this leaves T’Challa (and maybe Doctor Strange?) as the new face of the MCU and the new main box office draw. Along with Captain Marvel, this means a very, very different Phase 4 cast. Does this setup Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross in Captain Marvel? Is Everett K. Ross the new Agent Coulson? The whole world now has Wakanda’s overpowered tech, what does this mean for stakes in the MCU and Infinity War? Wakanda: the TV series? Ben - Why ‘Black Panther’ Doesn’t Contain Any Infinity Stones (also, “was this a spoiler?” discussion) Is the final infinity stone, The Soul Stone, on Wakanda? What's up with the purple flowers? Black-market arms dealer Ulysses Klaue smuggled large amounts of vibranium out of Wakanda and sold them on the black market. Was Howard Stark a buyer? First scene in BP is 1992, right after Howard’s assassination months earlier. Who might be a villain for the sequel? M’Baku starts out as a jealous villain attempting to take the throne of Wakanda for himself, only to be defeated by T’Challa, turning him into a reluctant ally. Could that alliance be short lived?
