Cloverfield Paradox, Transformers, Dr. Seuss, Fullmetal Alchemist, Killer Teddy Bears, Isle of Dogs

On the February 16, 2018 episode of /Film Daily, editor-in-chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film senior writer Ben Pearson, and writers Hoai-Tran Bui and Chris Evangelista to talk about the latest news, including Cloverfield Paradox viewership, Transformers universe reboot, a Dr. Seuss biopic, the Fullmetal Alchemist trailer, a killer teddy bear movie and the first reviews for Wes Anderson’s next film Isle of Dogs. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). At the Water Cooler: Ben has been away in Mexico. The Mailbag follow-up: Dhaval Panchal writes in, “The problem with the bad accent in movies is that it pulls you out and makes you realise that how the makers are lazy. Whereas when done right, it brings the authenticity to the work and a lot of respect for the makers. The best example of Hindi accent done right! 1. The Hindi/Urdu used in the video, prepared by Ten rings terrorist declaring the kidnapping of Tony Stark, by Faran Tahir appears as Raza. Also, the Hindi/Urdu spoken by Stark's fellow captive, (Shaun Toub as Yinsen) is understandably an accent spoken by someone who is not fully proficient and still learning. Worst example of Hindi language in films is a scene in movie - 1. Avengers (Scene where Black Widow searches for Dr Banner, and a little girl approaches Dr Banner and talks in a bad accent) 2. The Russell Peters TV show on Netflix - Indian Detective, the lead actress has the worst accent of Hindi. (Alas, Russell Peters is of Indian descent)” Anders Reff from Oslo, Norway writes in, “Hollywood has portrayed the scandinavian and especially norwegian accent terribly wrong for many decades. By that i mean the accent we have while talking english. I understand why it ends up like that. They cant use resources on nailing that accent correct I mean, who cares, besides from us here up in the cold north. It is especially annoying because the actual norwegian accent is quite funny and naive. The hollywood version: way over the top and everybody sounds like nutcases. Wrong accent: norwegians visiting in a simpsons-episode Right accent: thorbjorn jagland revealing obama as peace prize winner ( jeezes, did that really happen?)” And Eddie from Philadelphia writes in to say “I just listened to the February 14 episode of Slash Film Daily where you discussed "Den of Thieves 2". I was one of the few people who did go see the movie (using my MoviePass), and I found it to be a pretty enjoyable action/heist movie. The ending to the film set up a sequel quite nicely so it doesn't surprise me that they're greenlighting a sequel. Considering you saw "Geostorm", I think that it's worth using your MoviePass to go see. Although it's a long film, it's a great theater experience.” In the News: ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Drew Five Million Netflix Viewers in Its First Seven Days Is Paramount Rebooting The ‘Transformers’ Cinematic Universe?
