Spider-Man: Far From Home Mailbag, HBO Max, Look Who’s Talking, Lion King, Spider-Man 3 & More

On the July 10, 2019 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor-in-chief Peter Scirettais joined by /Film managing editor Jacob Halland writer Chris Evangelistato talk about the latest film and tv news, including HBO Max, Lord of the Rings, Look Who’s Talking, The Lion King, Spider-Man 3, and more. And in the Mailbag we’ll be answering some questions in response to our Spider-Man: Far From Home spoiler discussion episode. In The News: Chris: Warner Streaming Service Named HBO Max, Launching Spring 2020 (and Bringing ‘Friends’ With It) Jacob: 'Lord of the Rings' MMO Video Game Coming From Amazon Chris: ‘Look Who’s Talking’ Reboot In the Works For Some Reason Peter: ‘The Lion King’ Early Buzz: Does Jon Favreau’s Remake Roar? Jacob: If ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Doesn’t Make a Billion Dollars, Sony Breaks Free of the Marvel Studios Deal SPOILER WARNING Chris (og Brad): Kevin Feige Says the Next Spider-Man Story Has “Never Been Done Before on Film” In The Mailbag: John O. from NJ (Home of Six Flags Great Adventure, one of the most underrated theme parks in America) writes in “Does anyone else have a problem watching Euphoria right after Spider-Man Far from Home? I love MJ’s character just as much as Peter (Parker) does and don’t want to ruin it…” Paul Jolly from Melbourne, Australia writes in “Love your podcast. Enjoyed your spoilerific discussion of Far from home. I couldn’t help noting that when you were guessing potential names for the next Spider-Man movie, surely Homespun should be to good to miss. Beautiful punning. Cheers.” Brian from Austin writes in “I feel like Peter Parker’s arc tracks pretty well throughout the films. Teenagers certainly are impulsive and may not know what they want in the future but Peter is more a victim of other people influencing him than anything else. That and the fact that he is compelled to help people, even when it means getting in over his head. Civil War: Wants to protect his neighborhood, Tony asks him to step up and he does. Homecoming: Peter has had a taste of being an avenger and thinks that’s what he wants but then realizes he’s not ready/has other priorities. Infinity War: Has no choice but to join the fight because the threat is so large. His mentor and his city are being attacked. Far From Home: Still wants to be a neighborhood spider-man, tries to leave it behind on his vacation but has to step up again when “Fury” recruits him and Tony gives him Edith. Love the pod and the site!” Jon A writes in “I think you guys might be missing the real reason behind the second post credit scene, I think it’s a set-up for SWORD.” James writes in “Hi Peter, With Spiderman Far From Home being SO intertwined with the MCU, the big question for me that came to mind was - WILL Spiderman Far From Home be on Disney+. hypothetically, could you watch all films from the MCU on the upcoming 'Marvel' channel portion of the platform since it's distributed by SONY?” All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. On the April 25, 2024 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor Ben Pearson is joined by /Film staff writer Bill Bria to gather around the virtual water cooler to talk about what they’ve been watching lately. In the Water Cooler:What we’ve been Watching:Bill saw Hereditary in IMAX, the first two Maze Runner movies, and Cool as Ice.Ben caught up with The First Omen and Immaculate, watched all of Conan O’Brien Must Go, and saw Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. Listener e-mail: Lorenzo from Sarasota, FL, wrote in about our recent episode where we talked about our favorite vampire films. Lorenzo says “both of my favorite live-action vampire movies were mentioned, but my number 1 favorite vampire movie is actually an animated movie, and I wanted to give it a shout out: The Batman vs. Dracula.” He calls it “underseen and underrated,” and explains that though it’s set in the continuity of an animated series called The Batman that debuted in 2004, “the film is a standalone story that can easily also be enjoyed even without the context of the show.” He says it’s “atmospheric and creepy,” it stars Peter Stormare as the voice of Dracula, and it even gives us Vampire Joker, with Tom Kenny’s Penguin basically filling the Renfield role and delivering comedy gold throughout.”All the other stuff you need to know:You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes./Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and TV as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify, and wherever you get your podcasts.Send your feedback, questions, comments, concerns, and mailbag topics to us at bpearson@slashfilm.com. Abigail Is A Ton of Fun, Plus An Interview With Radio Silence

On the April 19, 2024 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor Ben Pearson is joined by /Film editor BJ Colangelo to talk about Abigail and present an interview with Radio Silence, the film’s directors.Opening Banter: I want to read some quick feedback from our vampire episode yesterday. Eddie from Los Angeles wrote in saying “Thanks for another fun episode. Most of my favorite vampire movies at least got a shout out, but I do recommend 2012’s Byzantium, directed by Neil Jordan, who also directed Interview with a Vampire, and stars Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton. It’s a more realistic take while still having style, and it covers some themes you won’t likely find in other vampire tales. I’ve always thought this was underrated and underseen, so check it out. And of course, where was Vampire’s Kiss?In Our Feature Presentation:Thoughts about Radio Silence as directorsWhat makes them stand out as horror filmmakers?Spoiler-free thoughts about AbigailSpoiler reaction to the biggest scenes/moments in AbigailRadio Silence interviewOther link: Dan Stevens' Look In Abigail Was Inspired By I Think You Should Leave With Tim RobinsonAll the other stuff you need to know:You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes./Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and TV as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify, and wherever you get your podcasts.Send your feedback, questions, comments, concerns, and mailbag topics to us at bpearson@slashfilm.com.
