Psalm 139: Walking with the One Who Knows You

“Welcome back to ‘2 Minutes with the Lord.’ I am your host, Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we’re taking a very different approach to Psalm 139.

Psalm 139, traditionally attributed to David, is a meditation on God’s intimate knowledge of, and presence with, each individual.

It reveals a God who knows the Psalmist completely and is present in every moment of life.

In the Historical Context: In Israelite thought, God’s omniscience and omnipresence were central beliefs.

This Psalm reflects the understanding that God is actively involved in His creation and attentive to each person’s life.

The themes of divine knowledge and intimacy are central. The Psalmist marvels at God’s knowledge of him, from his movements to his thoughts and even his formation in the womb.

The Psalm is deeply personal, expressing awe at the closeness of God’s presence.

Instead of just reading and reflecting, I invite you to join me on an imaginative journey—a walk with God where you’ll experience what it’s like to be fully known and loved.

Let’s step into this Psalm together and discover what it means to be seen by the One who understands every part of us.”

“Picture this: You’re in a quiet, peaceful place—maybe a path in a forest,

a quiet shoreline, or somewhere that feels like home. You’re not alone; God is walking with you, at your side, completely present.

As you walk, you feel this deep, calming presence, and you know that God is here not as a distant observer but as someone who understands every thought and every feeling.

He speaks, and His words feel like they’re filling every part of you:

‘I’ve searched you, and I know you.

I know when you sit and when you rise.

Before you even speak, I understand your thoughts.

Wherever you go, I am there.’

As you hear these words, imagine each part sinking in. You don’t have to explain yourself, put on a brave face, or pretend to be anything you’re not. You are fully known, right here, right now.”

“How does it feel to be indeed known in this way?

To not have to hold back or hide?

In this journey, there’s no judgment, no shame—just a safe space to be exactly who you are. God knows the parts of us that we’re proud of and wish we could change, and still, He’s walking right beside us.

Psalm 139 says, ‘Where can I go from Your Spirit?

Where can I flee from Your presence?’

The answer is simple—nowhere. God’s love is like a gentle, constant presence that fills even our darkest corners.

Imagine how it would feel if, every day, you could walk with this kind of understanding, knowing that you’re accepted exactly as you are.”

“Let’s make this personal. This week, find a quiet place where you can imagine yourself taking this walk with God.

Maybe it’s in a park, by a lake, or even in your living room. Spend five minutes just sitting with the idea that God knows you—every detail.

Bring your worries, your hopes, and even your doubts. Let God’s presence remind you that you’re completely seen and loved.

If you’d like, write down anything that comes up during this time. It could be a word, a feeling, or even a question you want to ask God.

Keep it somewhere you can see, as a reminder that you’re never alone on this journey.”

I want to narrate my own experience of closeness with the Lord. God knew what I was and who I was. He was there before me in my life’s journey.

He knew my every move. The Lord loved me as I was, and I just surrendered my life to him, and he took care of me. Through this deep experience, I feel so close to Him.

“Let’s pray together.

God, thank You for walking with us, for knowing us in ways we don’t even know ourselves.

Help us to rest in the truth that we are fully seen and loved, even when we don’t understand everything.

Let this knowledge free us to live with courage and peace. Guide us as we walk with You each day, knowing that wherever we go, You are there. Amen.

Veigas Dominic SVD, andtoday, we’re journeying into a compelling story from the Old Testament, featuring a woman who served as a judge, a prophetess, and a military leader. Her life speaks volumes about courage, wisdom, and unwavering faith. In this second episode of Season 7, we shine a lighton Deborah, “The Prophetic Judge Witness.” In a time when Israel was oppressedand seemingly leaderless, God raised Deborah to bring justice, declare Hiswill, and lead His people to victory. Her story is a testament to God’s abilityto use anyone, regardless of gender or societal expectations, to fulfill Hispurposes. Deborah’s life resonates with us today because sheexemplifies what it means to step into God’s calling with boldness, even whenothers hesitate. Her witness reminds us that authentic leadership flows fromdivine wisdom and a deep trust in God’s power. Today, we’ll unpack Deborah’s life, her powerfulmessage as a prophetic judge, and how her example can inspire our acts ofwitness. Let’s get started. Who was Deborah?Imagine a time in Israel’s history when chaos reigned. The people had once again turned away from God. As a result, they wereoppressed by King Jabin of Canaan and his formidable army commander, Sisera, who boasted 900 iron chariots. It was a bleak period, marked by fear anddespair.Yet, amid this darkness, God raised an extraordinarywoman named Deborah. She was unique for her time, serving not just as aprophetess who delivered God’s messages, but also as a judge – aspiritual and civic leader to whom the Israelites came for counsel and justice.Judges chapter 4, verse 4 clearly states, “Now Deborah, a prophet, the wifeof Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time.” She held court under a palmtree, dispensing wisdom and resolving disputes, an oasis of divine order in achaotic land. But Deborah’s calling extended even further. When itwas time for Israel to confront their oppressors, God called her to summonBarak, the military commander, to lead the charge. Barak, however, hesitated, saying he would only go if Deborah went with him. Without batting an eye,Deborah agreed, showing incredible courage and faith. Judges 4:9 records herresolute response: “Certainly I will go with you. But because of the course youare taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera intothe hands of a woman.” True to her prophecy, God granted Israel a decisivevictory, and Sisera was indeed defeated by a woman, Jael, who courageouslydrove a tent peg through his temple. Deborah’s leadership was instrumental, notby wielding a sword herself, but by fearlessly declaring God’s will, inspiringa hesitant army, and trusting entirely in God for the outcome. After the victory, Deborah and Barak sang amagnificent song of praise, recorded in Judges chapter 5, celebratingGod’s power and the faithfulness of those who responded to His call. This songnot only glorifies God but also commemorates the valor of women, such as Jael, who played crucial roles in history.

Welcome back to The Prophet Series!Over the past eleven episodes, we’ve journeyed through the voices of prophetswho boldly proclaimed God’s truth and pointed toward the coming of the Messiah.Today, in our final episode of Season6, we reflect on a man who never wrote a book of prophecy, never stood beforekings, and never led a nation—yet his moment of prophetic fulfillment is one ofthe most beautiful scenes in the Gospels. We meet Simeon—the aged, devout manwho waited his whole life to witness God’s promise with his own eyes. In hisstory, we discover the profound gift of hope, patient faith, and what it meansto recognize salvation even when it comes quietly.Let’s open our hearts to the story ofSimeon, the Watcher of the Promise. We’re introduced to Simeon in theGospel of Luke, chapter 2. We don’t know his lineage, we don’t know hisoccupation—but we do know this:Simeon was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. – Luke2:25Simeon had received a personalrevelation from the Holy Spirit:“You will not see death before youhave seen the Lord’s Messiah.”That promise shaped the rhythm of hislife. He lived in holy anticipation—every day entering the temple courts, perhaps wondering, “Is today the day I’ll see Him?”Then, one ordinary day, a poor couplewalks in. They carry a newborn child, just over a month old. The Holy Spiritmoves in Simeon’s heart, and he knows—this child is the fulfillment of thepromise. He takes Jesus in his arms and praisesGod with one of the most profound declarations in all of Scripture:“Now, Lord, You may dismiss Yourservant in peace, for my eyes have seen Your salvation.”Simeon’s story is one of deep trust—ofwaiting in faith and rejoicing in God’s perfect timing.Simeon’s story unfolds in one shortscene, yet it contains rich theological and prophetic meaning. Let’s walkthrough it:He is described as righteous, devout, and filled with the Holy Spirit. His life teaches us the value of quiet, faithful devotion.Simeon receives a specific promisefrom God—and holds onto it, year after year. Guided by the Spirit, Simeon entersthe temple at the exact moment Jesus is brought in. He takes the child into hisarms and recognizes the Savior. This prayer has become a treasuredpart of the Church’s evening prayer—his personal praise has become the Church’sliturgy.Simeon blesses the child, but alsospeaks a sobering word to Mary: “A sword will pierce your soul too.” He seesboth the glory and the suffering that Christ will bring. Simeon doesn’t just hold theMessiah—he proclaims Him with joy and clarity, recognizing God’s salvation notjust for Israel, but for the entire world.Let’s reflect on Simeon’s beautifulproclamation from Luke 2:29–32:“Now, Master, you maylet your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seenyour salvation, which you prepared insight of all the peoples,a light for revelationto the Gentiles, and glory for yourpeople Israel.”

Prophet Series Episode 10 Malachi

Prophet Series Episode 10 Malachi

Welcome back to The Prophet Series! In our last episode, weexplored Elisha’s ministry and how God works through faith and miracles toprovide and restore. Today, we turn to Malachi, the last prophet of the OldTestament, whose message is both a warning and an invitation to return to God. Malachi lived at a time when the people of Israel had growncomplacent in their faith. Their worship had become routine, their offeringswere half-hearted, and they had lost sight of God’s covenant. Malachi’sprophetic words called the people to renew their faithfulness and prepare forthe coming of the Lord. His message speaks powerfully to us today, reminding usthat God desires wholehearted devotion and promises to draw near when we turnto Him. Let’s dive into Malachi’s story and uncover what it means to return toGod with all our hearts.  Malachi’s ministry occurred during the post-exilic period, around 450–430 B.C., after the Israelites returned from Babylonian captivity. The temple had been rebuilt, but the people’s spiritual fervor had waned. The community faced challenges, including economic hardshipand discouragement over unfulfilled messianic expectations.  In response, the people began neglecting God’s commands.Priests offered blemished sacrifices, the people withheld tithes, and marriageswith pagan nations led to spiritual compromise. Malachi, whose name means “my messenger,” was called toconfront these issues. His prophetic message was direct, addressing the priestsand the people and calling them to honor their covenant with God.  The book of Malachi is short but rich in its structure. Itconsists of six disputes between God and His people. These disputes follow aquestion-and-answer format: God makes an assertion, the people respond withskepticism, and God provides evidence.
