Ep.514: North Face Climber and Alpine Start Coffee Founder - Matt Segal

Ep.514: North Face Climber and Alpine Start Coffee Founder - Matt Segal

Growing up, Matt was an unlikely candidate to become a professional climber. Mostly because the southern beaches of Florida were his home. However, early on he showed promising climbing ability and began competing all over the country and world.

After moving out to Colorado he began doing things very few climbers were doing, garnering the attention of The North Face. He signed with them and did climbs and expeditions all over the world. Noticing the lack of quality coffee on the market for backcountry sports, Matt’s mind began working.

When back home in Colorado he would experiment with instant coffee combinations until he was satisfied. After talking his sister and some friends into going in with him, they started Alpine Start, the premier instant coffee for backpackers, climbers, and anyone in the adventure sports world.

Today we’re talking to Matt about his story and how he balancing life on the rock and life in the business world.

Ep. 1136: How to Beat Mondays Revisited with Mike Chambers

Ep. 1136: How to Beat Mondays Revisited with Mike Chambers

Summiting mountains in South America, bikepacking in the desert and climbing classic big wall routes sound like epic adventures that you’d have to save lots of vacation days for, right? The travel alone would take up at least a day or two, especially for any international trips. Not to mention making arrangements for other responsibilities like kids, pets, work, etc. Mike Chambers and his adventure partner, Jason Antin, think otherwise. In fact, they think you can leave the office on Friday at 5pm, have an adventure of a lifetime and be back at work at 9am on Monday. Is it easy? Of course not. Is it worth it? C’mon now. It all started when Mike was living in Boston and Jason was based in Colorado and the two came up with the bright idea of summiting Mt. Rainier in a true weekend. To the astonishment of the park rangers that hesitantly granted them the permit, their plan worked. Although the morning meetings that Monday were not as productive as they usually were, they both walked away with a pretty epic response to the age-old question, “what did you do this weekend?” Once the concept of Beat Monday was proven, Jason and Mike began dreaming of what else could be possible with this format. Bikerafting, big wall climbing, ultrarunning, and international travel began to fill their weekends and was even made into an OutsideTV series, Beat Monday. Mike is joining us today to tell us about what he’s learned through the Beat Monday mindset and what’s possible for you to beat whatever your Monday is. Follow Mike and Beat Monday below:Beat Monday on OutsideTV@mike_chambers@beatmondayBeatMonday.comSupport Adventure Sports Podcast monthly by going to Patreon.com/AdventureSportsPodcast or make a one-time donation to the show here. Our Sponsors:* Check out Infinite Epigenetics: https://infiniteepigenetics.com/ASP* Check out Uncommon Goods: https://uncommongoods.com/aspSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 1131: Europe by Horse for a Cause with Louis Hall

Ep. 1131: Europe by Horse for a Cause with Louis Hall

Louis D. Hall is a writer, public speaker, and founder of The Big Hoof, a Scottish-registered charity harnessing the power of long-distance horse journeys to champion mental health and wellbeing. Growing up in rural Scotland, Louis discovered his calling for epic travel early on. At 18, he trekked to northern Mongolia in search of the nomadic Tsaatan tribe, where his first encounters with horses ignited a lifelong affinity for their "connecting powers." This spark led to bolder quests: a solo 1,147-mile ride from Scotland to England's southern tip, raising £38,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust; and a grueling 111-day odyssey across Europe with his Arabian mare Sasha, blazing a pioneering trail through the snow-swept Ligurian Alps, storm-lashed Pyrenees, and partisan-haunted paths to Cape Finisterre, Spain—"the end of the land."https://www.thebighoof.com/Book: in Green: Two horses, Two Strangers, a Journey to the End of the Land - https://a.co/d/3CVfGLoOur Sponsors:* Check out Infinite Epigenetics: https://infiniteepigenetics.com/ASP* Check out Uncommon Goods: https://uncommongoods.com/aspSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
