Ep. 902: Kayaking The Inside Passage - Chris Whittaker
You may recognize Chris from episode 618, talking about being a full-time adventure guide. He’s back to chat about an epic 72-day sea kayak expedition of the Inside Passage, the 1,200-mile paddle trail from Seattle to Skagway, Alaska. Chris said it was a logistical nightmare in terms of organization, especially due to covid disruptions. However, it paid off with truly wild animal encounters, humpbacks surfacing feet from their kayaks, being 'bumped' by killer whales, and camping in grizzly bear country. On top of that, Chris has changed roles from guide to expedition business owner. Not long after coming home from this adventure, he turned around to guide groups to summited Kilimanjaro twice! Ep. 900: The American Perimeter Trail - Rue McKenrick
Rue McKenrick is a long-distance backpacker and the Executive Director of The American Perimeter Trail Conference. He grew up with the Appalachian Trail running through his backyard in Pennsylvania. After years of international backpacking, he was inspired to return to the US and complete the Triple Crown of backpacking, which includes the Pacific Crest, Continental Divide National Scenic Trails, and the Appalachian Trail. After the completion of the Triple Crown, he first conceived of the American Perimeter Trail as a way to see the entire outline of the US on a single epic journey. McKenrick moved to Bend, Oregon in 2010 and continued to hone his skills of climbing, skiing, trail running, and cycling and in 2019, he began the 12,000 mile scouting trek of the route for the American Perimeter Trail. 2 years later on October 8th, 2022, Rue had a triumphant return to Bend, Oregon where he completed the first thru-hike of the APT. The stories we hear on Adventure Sports Podcast are incredible, but often we are left with a lingering question of “how did they pay for this amazing adventure?” What I’ve learned through the years from my own adventures and from our hundreds of guests has led me to record this episode and commit to asking that exact question to more guests in the future. If you have great tips and ideas on how to make adventures more financially feasible that weren’t mentioned in this episode, let us know at info@adventuresportspodcast.com!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 896: Narrowly Surviving a Storm on a Sailboat - Jerome Rand
This is the third time I’ve interviewed Jerome and the second in-person interview with him. He’s been on episode 644 and episodes 721 and 723 as a two part series. After 271 days and over 29,000 miles, the Westsail 32 “Mighty Sparrow” sailed into Gloucester Harbor with a lone Jerome aboard. Check out that epic story the first time I sat down with him. Most recently he was on sail to the southern Atlantic Ocean but Mother Nature had other plans.
