Settling Into Stillness: Let Your Nervous System Remember Peace

Settling Into Stillness: Let Your Nervous System Remember Peace

Hey there, and welcome. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. You know, it's early Saturday morning where you are right now, and I'm guessing that maybe you woke up with that familiar tightness in your shoulders or that spinning feeling in your chest. We've all been there. Life doesn't pause just because it's the weekend, does it? So today, I want to give you something really simple but deeply nourishing. We're going to practice what I call the "settling meditation," and it's designed to help your nervous system remember what it feels like to just... be. Let's start by finding a comfortable seat. Whether that's on your couch, a chair, or even propped up in bed, choose something that feels supportive. You don't need to sit like a statue. This isn't about perfect posture. This is about finding your own version of comfortable. Once you're settled, just let your eyes gently close or soften your gaze downward. There's no performance happening here. This is just for you. Now, let's take a moment to arrive. Take a slow breath in through your nose, noticing the cool air as it enters. Hold it for just a moment, and then exhale slowly through your mouth like you're fogging a mirror. Do that again. In through the nose, and out through the mouth. One more time. Beautiful. Here's what we're going to do now. I want you to imagine that your body is like a snow globe that's been shaken up. All those little flakes are swirling around, representing stress, tension, worry. Your job isn't to fight them or make them stop. Instead, we're just going to let them settle naturally. With each exhale, imagine a few more flakes drifting down to the bottom. There's no rush. As you breathe in, your belly rises gently like a balloon slowly inflating. As you breathe out, it softens back down. In through the nose, out through the mouth. The flakes are settling. Your shoulders might feel heavier. Your jaw might relax. That's exactly right. Keep going with this rhythm. In and out. In and out. The snow globe is becoming clearer. The chaos is settling into stillness. There's a peace underneath all that busyness. You're finding it right now with each breath. Take three more breaths on your own, moving at whatever pace feels right for your body. And when you're ready, gently open your eyes. Notice how you feel. That calm you just touched? That's not going anywhere. Carry it with you today. When you feel that stress creeping back in, remember the snow globe. Take three slow breaths, and let things settle again. Thank you so much for practicing Relaxation with me today. If this resonated with you, please subscribe so we can do this together again soon. You deserve this peace.
