Socialism Sucks: Tony Sabio’s Message in Virginia’s Deep-Blue 8th District

Tony Sabio just won the Republican primary in Virginia’s 8th District — one of the deepest blue seats in the country — and he’s not soft-pedaling the message. On this Virginia Insider podcast, Uriah Kiser sits down with Sabio to talk about the rise of Democratic Socialists inside the Democratic Party, the “Socialism Sucks” merchandise that is funding his campaign, and why he believes Northern Virginia is the real battleground for the state’s political future.

Sabio argues the fight is no longer just Republican versus Democrat. He says the Democratic Party is being pulled left by DSA-aligned candidates who openly talk about abolishing the Senate, prisons, and police. He points to recent primary upsets in other states and to local frustration among legal immigrants who fled socialist systems only to watch similar ideas gain ground here. Half the proceeds from his “Socialism Sucks” shirts and hats go directly to the campaign, and he is deliberately wearing the message in Arlington and Alexandria to show closet conservatives they are not alone.
