Four In, Six Out: Your Friday Reset with Julia Cartwright

Four In, Six Out: Your Friday Reset with Julia Cartwright

Hey there, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. You know, it's late Friday morning or early in the day depending on where you are, and I'm guessing that means your nervous system might be running a little hot right now. The week's been real, hasn't it? The to-do lists, the notifications, maybe a few conversations that left you feeling a bit tangled up. So today, we're going to do something radical together: absolutely nothing productive. Just relaxation. Pure, simple, permission-based relaxation. Before we dive in, I want you to get comfortable. That might mean settling into your favorite chair, finding a quiet corner, or even just pausing whatever you're doing right now. No need to change your clothes or light a candle unless that calls to you. This is about meeting yourself exactly where you are. Now, let's start by noticing your breath without trying to change it. Just observe it for a moment. You might notice it's a little shallow, a little quick maybe. That's completely normal. Your breath is like a trusted friend who mirrors exactly what you're feeling. When you're stressed, it speeds up. When you're calm, it softens. So here's what we're going to do. We're going to gently convince your breath to slow down, and your nervous system will follow along like a puppy on a leash. Take a breath in through your nose, slow and easy, as if you're smelling bread baking in a warm kitchen. Just count to four as you inhale. Now hold it for just a beat, no strain. And exhale like you're fogging a mirror with your mouth. Count to six this time. Let it out slowly. Again. In for four through your nose, hold it softly, and out for six through your mouth. Notice how different your shoulders feel already? You're not forcing anything. You're just telling your body it's safe to let go. Let's do this together for the next couple of minutes. With each exhale, imagine you're releasing something you don't need anymore. Maybe it's worry, maybe it's today's frustration, maybe it's just that tight feeling in your chest. As you breathe out, picture it leaving you like steam rising and dissolving into the air. You're not fighting it. You're just allowing it to float away naturally. Here's the beautiful truth about relaxation: it's not something you achieve. It's something you allow. You're already doing it. Your body knows how to rest. It remembers. All you're doing is getting out of your own way. As we wrap up, carry this with you today. Whenever you feel your shoulders creeping toward your ears again, pause. Take one of these breaths. Four in, six out. That's all you need. Thank you so much for spending this time in relaxation with me. Please subscribe so we can practice together again soon. You've got this.
