Monday Morning Reset: Your 5-Minute Escape from Summer Stress

Monday Morning Reset: Your 5-Minute Escape from Summer Stress

Hey there, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. You know, Monday mornings in late August have this weird energy, don't they? Summer's slipping away, schedules are ramping up, and your nervous system might be doing overtime. So today, we're going to do something really simple but deeply nourishing. We're going to relax. Not the kind where you zone out in front of your phone, but the kind where you actually feel your shoulders drop and your jaw unclench. Sound good? Go ahead and find a comfortable seat, somewhere you won't be bothered for the next few minutes. You can close your eyes if that feels right, or just soften your gaze downward. Whatever makes you feel safe and grounded. Now, let's start with something I call the reset breath. Breathe in through your nose for a count of four, hold it for four, and exhale through your mouth for six. That longer exhale is key—it's like letting the tension pour right out of you. Let's do that three times together. Breathe in... two, three, four. Hold... two, three, four. And out... two, three, four, five, six. Beautiful. One more time. Okay, here's our main practice. I want you to imagine that relaxation is like a warm liquid slowly filling your body from the crown of your head downward. As you breathe in, this warmth moves down through your forehead, releasing any tension you've been holding there. Your jaw softens. Your shoulders, which are probably somewhere up by your ears, melt down like butter on warm toast. With each exhale, sink deeper. Feel the warmth flowing through your chest, dissolving any tightness around your heart. Breathe it down into your belly, your hips, your thighs. There's no rush here. You're not trying to achieve anything. You're simply allowing your body to remember what ease feels like. If your mind wanders, that's not a failure. That's just what minds do. Gently bring it back to the sensation of this warmth, this slowness, this permission to simply be. Take a few more breaths like this. There's no countdown. Just you and this moment. When you're ready, start to bring a little awareness back to the room. Maybe wiggle your fingers and toes. No rush. Here's what I want you to carry forward today: One time—just once—when you feel tension creeping back in, return to this practice. Even thirty seconds of that reset breath can shift everything. Thank you so much for joining me on Relaxation today. This practice is so much better when you subscribe, so please do. I'll be right here, whenever you need to come home to calm.
