Tuesday Morning Reset: Five Minutes to Calm Your Nervous System

Tuesday Morning Reset: Five Minutes to Calm Your Nervous System

Hey there, I'm Julia, and welcome to Stress Relief. I'm so glad you're here, especially on a Tuesday morning like this one. You know, early September has this funny energy, doesn't it? Summer's loosening its grip, things are shifting back into gear, and your nervous system might be feeling a little stretched thin. So today, we're going to do something really simple but deeply settling. Just you, me, and about five minutes where nothing else needs to happen. Go ahead and get comfortable wherever you are right now. If you can sit, wonderful. If you're lying down, that works too. The only rule is that your body feels supported. Now, take a moment and notice what you're feeling. Maybe there's tightness somewhere. Maybe your mind is already planning the next three hours. That's all completely normal, and we're not here to fix it. We're here to befriend it. Let's start with something I call the Sigh Reset. Take a deep breath in through your nose for a count of four. Hold it for a moment. And now, let it out with a gentle sigh, like you're releasing the weight of the morning. Do that three times. That sigh is actually your nervous system's favorite language. It says, permission granted to relax. Now here's our main practice, and I want you to really tune into this. We're going to use something I call Grounding Through Sensation. Rather than fighting your stress, we're going to anchor yourself into the present moment through what you can actually feel. Notice five things in contact with your body right now. The chair supporting your back. Your feet on the ground. Maybe your hands resting somewhere. Spend about a minute just acknowledging these contact points. They're like roots, holding you steady. Next, bring your attention to your breath, but here's the twist. Don't try to change it. Just observe it like you're watching waves on a beach. In and out. Natural and easy. When your mind wanders, and it will, gently guide it back like you're redirecting a curious puppy. This is where the real magic happens, in that returning. Each return is a tiny victory for your nervous system. As we wrap up, take one more deep breath and notice how you feel, even if it's just one percent lighter. That matters. Carry this into your day by checking in with your feet on the ground whenever you feel that tension creeping back in. It's your portable stress relief button. Thank you so much for spending this time with me on Stress Relief. Your commitment to this practice matters more than you know. Please subscribe so you never miss a moment together. You've got this.
