Trial Of Caleb Flynn Day 3: Todd Smith Searched WHAT After Ashley Died?

Ashley Flynn’s father, Todd Smith, gave jurors a look at Caleb Flynn’s financial position inside the Smith family business—and described the private question he eventually typed into Google after his daughter was killed.

Todd testified that Caleb earned $195,000 in 2025 along with a $10,000 tax-free medical reimbursement. He planned to retire and divide the company 50/50 between Ashley and her sister Kayla, while Caleb’s earnings as a salesman could rise as company sales increased. Todd also described extra money the Smiths gave the Flynn family through the “GGFM fund” for trips and experiences. He said the Smiths paid for many family vacations.

Todd testified that Ashley never spoke negatively about Caleb. After her death, though, he said he began thinking the circumstances looked bad for his son-in-law. He Googled whether “a Christian man” could snap and kill his wife before his wife told him not to go down that road.

Captain Tony Smith of Tipp City Police then testified about the investigation. He said the FBI was contacted early, Flynn financial accounts were subpoenaed, DNA was collected from one of the children, and a laptop from the Flynn home was taken into evidence.

Captain Smith also said numerous tips came through the tipline and were forwarded to the FBI. He testified that none ultimately produced a lead. On cross, he said officers collected property from Alleigha Botner’s church office and that he learned her laptop and phone had reportedly been lost on a January 2026 trip.

Caleb Flynn denies killing Ashley and has pleaded not guilty.
