A Prayer to Have Mountain Moving Faith

Harold had a purple crayon that could bring anything into being — a bicycle, a friend, an entire world drawn from imagination. Children accept that kind of possibility without hesitation. But somewhere between childhood and adulthood, imagination and faith both tend to quietly diminish, and the things that once seemed possible begin to feel out of reach. The Christian walk, however, is built entirely on believing in what cannot yet be seen — which is why cultivating faith is not optional. Without it, Hebrews 11:6 tells us, it is impossible to please God.

Matthew 17:20 gives us one of Jesus' most memorable and encouraging pictures of what faith can accomplish. A mustard seed — 1 to 2 millimeters in diameter — was the smallest seed known to the farmers of Jesus' day. And yet that same seed can grow into a bush-like tree 10 to 20 feet tall. The point is not that small faith is sufficient on its own, but that even small, genuine faith in an infinitely capable God is enough to move mountains. The size of the faith is not what matters — the size of the God that faith is placed in does. Faith grows the same way a mustard seed does: slowly, steadily, through consistent nourishment. Prayer, time in Scripture, and the daily practice of applying God's Word in real life are the conditions in which trust deepens and mountains begin to move. Trust in His might today, and watch what He can do.

Ponder Today

1. The size of your faith matters less than the One your faith is placed in. A mustard seed is small — but planted in the right conditions, it grows into something extraordinary. Faith in an infinite God, however small it begins, carries the power of the One it trusts.
2. Faith must be cultivated — it does not grow on autopilot. Prayer, Bible reading, and applying God's teachings in daily life are the soil and water that faith requires. Neglect those practices and faith will weaken; invest in them and it will grow.
3. Doubt is not a disqualifier — it is an invitation to bring weakness to God. The disciples had little faith, and Jesus responded not with condemnation but with correction and instruction. Our honest admission of small faith opens the door to God's growing work in us.
4. Mountain-moving faith begins with trusting God with what is directly in front of you. The impossible things require the same God as the everyday things. Faithfulness in small acts of trust builds the capacity for larger ones over time.
5. Every answered prayer is evidence of God's faithfulness, not our own spiritual achievement. Remembering that truth when doubt creeps in keeps our faith properly oriented — not in our own capacity to believe, but in the God who acts on behalf of those who trust Him.

A Prayer for You Today

Dear Jesus, I want to have a faith that can move mountains. My faith tends to be quite small at times, and I doubt You. Please forgive me and guide my heart to greater faith and trust in You. Encourage my heart to cultivate faith by studying the Bible, praying to You, and applying Your teachings in my life. Turn my heart away from anything that distracts me from You. Challenge my heart to believe in the impossible — nothing is too hard for You. Fill my heart with the knowledge that You will answer my prayers and help me move mountains in my life. Help me remember this truth when I am struggling with doubt. I am trusting You with my prayers, my life, and my future. In Your name, Amen.
