Only Three Days a Week to Train: The Six Piece Checklist | 362

Only Three Days a Week to Train: The Six Piece Checklist | 362

We take on the question we get more than almost any other: what do you do when you only have three days a week to train. We are done with the just do what you can answer from coaches. Constraints are exactly where programming matters most, and three days a week is plenty to make real progress if the week is built correctly.

Jerred lays out the six piece checklist that makes a three day week work. On the strength side you want a sub max effort day, a max effort or heavy day, and a dynamic effort day. On the conditioning side you want all three energy systems, gain, pain and sustain. Then you pair them so you never stack two central nervous system heavy demands on the same day: heavy lifting with an easy sustained run, hard glycolytic intervals with sub max lifting, and short 10 second sprints with dynamic effort work. Dave walks through his own run and lift splits, and Jerred makes the case for full body over squat bench deadlift splits, mostly because real life means you will miss a day.

We also get into whether three days is truly your limit or a choice, why four days is all Hard to Kill actually asks of you, how to know when you have plateaued and should add a day, how the Minimal Time track differs from the main track, and why plenty of coaches and smart athletes still hand their programming off instead of doing it themselves.
