Brian Brown, along with his wife and one of his daughters, flew out of northern California in their personal plane, a Cessna 172, with plans to visit their oldest daughter in Mountain Home, ID. The trip was going well until weather started filling in the skies directly in their path. After diverting to an abandoned airfield to wait out the storm for a while, they saw what they thought was their chance to continue on. It didn't take long before their plans were drastically changed. The plane was engulfed in low-level clouds making it impossible for safe visual flight. In attempt to find a solution, the plane with the three family members aboard, slammed into the side of a mountain in Idaho. An avid sailor, Naval Architect and author, Steve Callahan designed and built his 21' sloop the Napolean Solo to sail it across the Atlantic Ocean from Newport, RI to England with plans to compete in a regatta. Once underway in the race, Steve experienced issues with the boat and was forced to drop out.
