Ep. 1047: Skiing all 1,000 miles of the the Iditarod - Sunny Stroeer

Ep. 1047: Skiing all 1,000 miles of the the Iditarod - Sunny Stroeer

Sunny is the first woman to complete the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Invitational on cross-country skis - but she is not a skier. A Harvard MBA and hard-charging strategy consultant in her twenties, Sunny turned her back on material possessions at age 30 in order to live in an Astrovan so she could run and climb full-time instead.

Sunny's overarching passion is to be active and push her limits in the side- and backcountry, spanning a multitude of sports from big-wall climbs over multi-day paddling trips to 100 milers and everything in between, including 1000 mile cross country ski races, though her specialty is the high altitude endurance realm; she holds speed records on Aconcagua and on the Annapurna Circuit and has excelled on high trails in the Colorado Rockies.

Ep. 371: The Best Trails for Hiking with Your Kids in Western Washington - Susan Elderkin

Susan Elderkin’s parents pointed her down her first trail, along Minnesota’s Lake Superior, at the age of three. By age 10 she outpaced her family on annual vacations to Grand Teton National Park. As an adult, she found she was spending all of her free time hiking and backpacking, so she quit her job in Washington, DC, packed her backpack and spent six weeks thru-hiking the Colorado Trail from Denver to Durango in 1995. Listen in as Curt and Susan discuss the importance of getting your kids comfortable with and excited for the outdoors. The two discuss tips and tricks to keep kids happy on the trail as well as the best trails to help introduce them to the outdoors.   www.susanelderkin.org www.mountaineers.org/books/books/best-hikes-with-kids-western-washington https://www.instagram.com/susanelderkin/ https://www.facebook.com/MountaineersBooks/ https://twitter.com/MtneersBooks Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 369: Kungsleden Trail in Sweden and Repelling for Charity - Todd Medeiros

In 2017, Todd Medeiros and girlfriend A.J. hiked the 270-mile Kungsleden Trail in Sweden using snowshoes, crampons and sleds. The Kungsleden or "King's Trail" runs from Abisko to Hemavan in northern Sweden. Even though the trail is a hut trail, the pair decided to do it by camping outdoors. Todd also fills us in on an organization called Over the Edge Global who holds urban repelling events for fundraisers. In urban repelling, people repel from the rooftops of tall buildings.
