S3 Ep41: Teaching Students with Pop Culture

Your favorite teachers are off duty and looking at the role of pop culture in education. From reminiscing about our favorite teacher movies to cringing over creepy teacher portrayals, we discuss it all. Remember Ms. Frizzle? Or the Kindergarten Cop? Yeah, we dissect those too!

Ever wonder how pop culture can aid classroom teaching? Lauran takes us back to her rockin' Wax Museum project, teaching history through the lens of Hall of Fame musicians. Gabe shows us how he turns up the volume in his class with music, teaching subconscious understanding through lyrical analysis. Don't worry, he'll explain what that means.

We also tap into the fashion flashback and the hilarity of kids not knowing the pop culture references on their own shirts. Good or garbage with Gabe keeps it classic this week, as we debate the nostalgic thrill of the TV cart wheeling its way into the classroom. Is the TV cart good or garbage, we all know the answer!

In the world of gaming, who can forget the good old Oregon Trail? We revisit some educational games and the unintended scares they gave us. Wrapping it up, we discuss how fictional Hogwarts classes could potentially stack up in a real-world curriculum.

It's a pop culture frenzy you wouldn't want to miss. Tune in!
