Ep. 1057: The Longest Annual Paddle Race in the US - Revisited - Greg Wingo

Ep. 1057: The Longest Annual Paddle Race in the US - Revisited - Greg Wingo

You might not think of Alabama as holding many records in the world of endurance races (at least I didn’t), however, you’d be wrong! Alabama is home to the Great Alabama 650, a 650-mile paddle race down the Alabama Scenic River Trail going from the northern part of the state out to the Gulf of Mexico. Racers face whitewater, battle tidewater currents, and hike around a dozen dams in an effort to reach the ocean and are expected to finish between 7-10 days.

Today we’re talking with the AL650 race director, Greg Wingo to learn just how challenging a race like this is to plan as well as compete in.

Also, Adventure Sports Podcast is now a sponsor of Greg’s other race, Last Paddler Standing. Mason will be commentating during the LPS in December.

Ep. 736: Paragliding off Volcanoes - Revisited - Adrian Garza

Ep. 736: Paragliding off Volcanoes - Revisited - Adrian Garza

When Adrian’s wife thought it would be a good idea to learn how to Paraglide, she probably didn’t foresee that in a relatively short amount of time, her husband would be summiting and flying solo off volcanoes near their home in Mexico City.Obviously, Adrian took to the sport quickly and it gave him a completely different view of his other favorite hobby, climbing. But with their recent family addition of a little girl and limited time off work, Adrian needed a way to summit mountains over 18,000 feet and return home in the same day. This led him to sleeping in a hypoxic chamber to decrease the amount of time needed to acclimate to high elevation.  Talk about dedication to adventure. What’s your excuse?Adrian will also be supporting Marko Hrgetic in the Red Bull X-Alps this June.Instagram: @ponchoelpilotohttp://youtube.com/ponchoelpilotoSupport Adventure Sports Podcast monthly by going to Patreon.com/AdventureSportsPodcast or make a one-time donation to the show here. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 735: The Disappearance of Snowboarder Marco Siffredi on Everest - Jeremy Evans

Ep. 735: The Disappearance of Snowboarder Marco Siffredi on Everest - Jeremy Evans

From Rowman.com:“Marco Siffredi was the first person to make a complete snowboard descent of Mount Everest in 2001, and was regarded by many as the world’s best snowboarder. But the following year in 2002, Marco mysteriously disappeared on Everest while attempting a more difficult route known as Hornbein Couloir, an unrelentingly steep, difficult to access route with a high failure rate. Using exclusive never-before-granted interviews with family and friends, Evans aims to solve Everest's greatest mystery in nearly a century while exploring Marco's pursuit of a dream, his love of freedom and adventure, and how his French family was forever altered by his loss.”Jeremy Evans is a climber, snowboarder, award-winning journalist, and the author of The Battle for Paradise and In Search of Powder. Through his writing and adventures, he has connected with the most influential people in the climbing and skiing/snowboarding industries and encouraged them to tell their stories. This was most evident with subjects in the outdoor adventure field where Jeremy has been able to connect with climbers, skiers, and snowboarders worldwide.Find the book here: See You Tomorrow The Disappearance of Snowboarder Marco Siffredi on Everest.Watch the book trailer here: finisterrevisuals.comIs the price of gear holding you back from going on your next adventure or have extra gear you don’t need?
