Episode 09 Who is my Neighbour?

Episode 09 Who is my Neighbour?

Welcome, dear listeners, to another episode of our podcast, where we explore stories that touch the depths of our faith and inspire us to be better. I'm your host, Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we delve into the timeless parable of the Good Samaritan. The Parable of the Good Samaritan. Our story today begins with a question posed to Jesus, "Who is my neighbour?" In response, Jesus shared the powerful parable of the Good Samaritan, found in the New Testament in Luke 10:25-37. In this parable, a man is beaten, robbed, and left for dead on the side of the road. Passersby, including a priest and a Levite, ignore him. It's a Samaritan, a person from a despised group, who shows compassion, tends to the wounded man's injuries, and ensures his safety. This story teaches us about the boundless nature of compassion and the call to love our neighbour as ourselves. Lessons from the Compassionate Samaritan The parable of the Good Samaritan imparts several profound lessons: 1. Compassion Knows No Boundaries: True compassion transcends social, racial, and cultural barriers. It reminds us that kindness should extend to all, regardless of our differences. 2. Taking Action: The Samaritan didn't just feel sorry for the injured man; he took action. This teaches us the importance of not just empathising but also helping those in need. 3. Breaking Stereotypes: The story challenges stereotypes and biases. It reminds us that goodness can be found in unexpected places. I remember a group of healthcare workers who, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, went above and beyond to care for patients, often risking their own health. Their dedication and compassion in the face of adversity exemplified the spirit of the Good Samaritan. The parable of the Good Samaritan continues to inspire acts of kindness and compassion in our modern world. Countless individuals and organisations are following in the footsteps of the Samaritan, making a positive impact on their communities. The parable of the Good Samaritan challenges us to reflect on our own lives and ask, "Am I being a Good Samaritan in my daily interactions?" As we conclude this episode on the Good Samaritan, may you carry with you the timeless wisdom of this parable—that compassion knows no boundaries and that we are all called to be good neighbours to one another. Thank you for joining us on this journey through a story that continues to inspire acts of kindness and compassion. May the parable of the Good Samaritan guide our actions, reminding us that the world can be a better place when we choose to be Good Samaritans in our own lives. Until we meet again to explore more stories that touch our hearts and inspire us to make a difference, may your days be filled with the spirit of the Good Samaritan, ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Episode 12 The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

Episode 12 The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

Welcome to another episode of '2 Minutes with the Lord,' where we delve into the profound lessons of Jesus's parables and their direct relevance to our daily lives. I'm your host, Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today we're exploring The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. This story is not just a historical account but a mirror reflecting our approaches to spirituality and humility. Let's unpack this powerful lesson and see how it resonates with our personal and spiritual journeys. In the Gospel of Luke 18:10-14, this parable features two men going to the temple to pray. One is a Pharisee, respected and outwardly righteous; the other, a tax collector, widely despised in that society. The Pharisee stands and prays about himself, thanking God that he is not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. He boasts about fasting twice a week and giving a tenth of all he gets. In contrast, the tax collector stands at a distance, not even willing to look up to heaven, and beats his breast, saying, ''God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'' Jesus concludes by saying that the tax collector, not the Pharisee, went home justified before God. All those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

Episode 11 The Parable of the Rich Fool

Episode 11 The Parable of the Rich Fool

”Hello and welcome to '2 Minutes with the Lord,' where we explore the timeless wisdom of Jesus' parables and apply their lessons to our contemporary lives. I'm your host, Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we're diving into The Parable of the Rich Fool—a story that challenges our understanding of wealth and priorities. How does this ancient story speak to our modern obsession with material success and security? Let's find out." In Luke 12:16-21, Jesus said, Once, there was a wealthy man whose fields yielded a tremendous harvest. Pleased with his fortune, he pondered, "What should I do? I don't have enough storage for all my crops." He decided, "I know what I'll do. I'll tear down my small barns and build larger ones. Then I can store all my grain and say, 'You have plenty stored away for years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy life!'" But that very night, God said to him, "You foolish man! Your life will end tonight. Then who will get everything you've prepared for yourself?" Jesus concluded by saying, "This is what happens to those who store earthly wealth but are not rich towards God." To be 'rich towards God' means prioritizing spiritual and communal aspects of life over material wealth and self-indulgence and using one's resources to serve others and build a better community.
