Soccer Saturday - INDY ELEVEN for 07/17/21

(0:00-3:00) - Greg Rakestraw brings you Soccer Saturday on 93.5 and 107.5 the Fan ahead of the Eleven’s match against Memphis 901 FC. He starts by previewing the upcoming hour featuring Indy interim head coach Max Rogers, Butler head coach Paul Snape and Chris Doran.

(6:03-17:10) Interim head coach Max Rogers joins the show to preview Saturday’s match against Memphis 901 FC and talk about some of the recent struggles of the Eleven and how to fight through those bumps in the road.

(20:12-34:12) - Butler head coach Paul Snape joins Soccer Saturday to talk about a pair of former Bulldogs, Eric Dick and Jared Timmer, who are now on the Indy Eleven roster. Snape talks about England’s loss in the Euro 2020 final and seeing special players like Dick and Timmer come through his program and then come back to Indianapolis for professional soccer. Snape speaks on how Timmer was a leader from day one at Butler and why he was a captain for three of his five years at Butler. Then, Snape speaks on Eric Dick’s journey through professional soccer since leaving the Bulldogs and his talent as well as what it means for his program to see his players succeed at the next level. Finally, after a weird last year, Snape talks about being back on the road recruiting and preparing for a proper season this fall.

(37:15-51:48) Radio voice of the Columbus Crew, Chris Doran, joins the show to talk about the Crew’s brand new stadium in downtown Columbus and the Crew coming back from down two goals and down a man to steal a point. Doran talks about the emotions and feel of a brand new soccer stadium and accommodating 20,000 people all learning about a new location at the same time as well as the world class nature of the facility. Finally, Doran and Rakestraw discuss specifics about the Crew roster including the goalkeeper room in Columbus and Eric Dick’s chances of getting a shot at the keeper position in MLS as well as dealing with absences due to international play and tournaments like the Gold Cup.

(54:50-57:07) Greg comes back to wrap up Soccer Saturday with what he dubs the Gold Cup Corner to talk about the Concacaf Gold Cup to wrap up a busy hour on Saturday morning.

(22:41-38:17) – All-time leading scorer of the Indy Eleven in Eamon Zayed joins the show live this time after requesting to be on the show with Greg via Twitter last week to discuss the training that he can be apart of in Chattanooga, what he did during prior to training to stay in shape while he was quarantines, and some of the things that he has done in Chattanooga on his spare time. (41:19-54:07) – Ian Joy from Fox Sports is our last guest from today’s edition of Soccer Saturday to explain how how surprised he is that the Bundislega has received so much media attention of its return, how close the action was last weekend in comparison to when matches were last played in March, and why the younger Americans go to the Bundesliga first.
