EP37: The Jennifer Blue Project

Jennifer Blue is on a mission to “Raise the Awareness of Domestic Violence One Community at a time!” When she was 18 years old she thought she met the love of her life. He ended up being the complete opposite she endured seventeen years of verbal, mental, emotional, financial and physical abuse.

Blue knows first - hand the effects Domestic Violence has on a family. As a survivor herself, she’s knowledgeable, committed and passionate about keeping Domestic Violence Awareness on the forefront by educating communities in the detection, prevention, effects and recovery of Domestic Violence.

  • 3+ WOMEN A DAY DIE FROM DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
  • EVERY 9 SECONDS A WOMAN IS ABUSED BY HER PARTNER
  • THERE ARE MORE ANIMAL SHELTERS IN US THAN DV SHELTERS
  • 21% OF COLLEGE STUDENTS HAVE REPORTED ABUSE FROM A CURRENT PARTNER

In 2010 she uniquely came up with “The Jennifer Blue Project” this project was designed to educate a diverse audience about the growing epidemic of Domestic Violence. Blue uses the power of the arts to help individuals understand the complicated issues surrounding Domestic Violence in her award winning stage play “Easier Said than Done.” “The Jennifer Blue Project” also includes unique and effective workshops such as “Code Blue …How to Resuscitate Your Life after Abuse and Girl We Need to Talk.” Her book titled “Girl We Need Talk Surviving a Toxic Relationship” was released in spring 2020 which includes an up close and personal video with Jennifer Blue.

EP20: Sue Penna on Recovering from Trauma

EP20: Sue Penna on Recovering from Trauma

I spoke with Sue Penna on recovering from trauma, Sue answers your questions. Sue Penna, a UK pioneer in ‘trauma informed training’, draws on more than 20 years of experience working with the NHS’s Mental Health Services, and specialised experience in domestic and childhood abuse. The book acts as a recovery resource for individuals who have left violent relationships, helping them remove the guilt, shame and blame that can surround abuse. The Recovery Toolkit takes the reader on a journey that is part discovery, part guidance, and is based on the successful 12-week group programme of the same name, also created by Sue. It helps the reader to understand, challenge and remove the voice of the perpetrator. *** Mentioned in the podcast: Covid19: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03dNVXQEUiU My thoughts on The Recovery Toolkit: https://youtu.be/vvXbOBtgnE4 *** Abuse Talk Podcast currently offers a series of interviews with those that work in the domestic abuse sector.
