Ep. 518: Ways to Pay for Your Adventure - Mason Gravley

Ep. 518: Ways to Pay for Your Adventure - Mason Gravley

Whenever I was starting to plan my first big adventures, one of my biggest questions was, how do people pay for these experiences? What I've learned is that there's no real secret out there. It's a lot of grinding, budgeting, side gigs, sacrifice, asking, etc. The process of funding your adventure is honestly an entirely separate and equally difficult adventure. For me, the preparation and planning was half the excitement and joy of adventures, and often was a much longer experience than the trip itself.

This won't be a super organized or hugely insightful episode, just more of my thoughts and experiences on the subject.

I hope you enjoy and I hope you share your adventure-funding tips and tricks with us!

Ep. 886: Climbing Volcanoes for Good - Angie Marie

Everybody loves a summit selfie. But most people don't get to peer into the infinite behind-the-scenes moments before and after the shutter snaps-- which is where the true magic happens! In 2022, Angie volunteered for a nonprofit called The Cairn Project to raise grant funding for community organizations that offer wilderness experiences to girls and gender-expansive youth. Her "Adventure Fundraiser" involved climbing five Cascade Volcanoes in Oregon and Washington (including Mt. Rainier), as well as documenting the journey to make mountaineering more accessible to other women. The values and processes of outdoor journeys compel Angie to dig deeper into what's possible for her mind and body— and her mission is to inspire others to do the same.Angie's Instagram: @angvswildAngie's blog: outspired.org where she designs events and creates curricula that inspire folks to joyfully explore the outdoors.Angie's other blog: thehormonehacker.com where she teaches outdoorsy people with periods how to hack their menstrual cycles to enhance their adventurous passions.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 885: The Sport of Finding Bigfoot, Seriously - Laura Krantz

Ep. 885: The Sport of Finding Bigfoot, Seriously - Laura Krantz

“There’s no way Bigfoot could be real......at least that’s what I thought.”Laura Krantz is a self-described skeptic. However, several years ago she read an article about Grover Krantz, an anthropology professor and Bigfoot researcher. She thought it odd they shared last names. After more digging, she was surprised to discover that Grover was a cousin to her grandfather. She had to learn more about this mysterious world of folks who believe in the creature but aren’t “crazy”.  What she found was fascinating. These aren’t tin hat-wearing antisocial hermits in the forest. They are professors, teachers, forest rangers, and police officers who all had undeniably strange encounters with a creature that they never thought they’d believe in. Laura, a former NPR producer, documented her journey which she turned into Wild Thing, a podcast about the lore and reality of who or what Bigfoot really is and her quest to know more about the folks who search for it. Ep. 883: Using Financial Independence to Fuel a Life of Adventure - Revisited - Chris Mamula

Episode originally aired - July 12, 2019With any adventure, finances have to be part of the planning. That planning can begin months or years before the adventure even begins. Some folks decide to put it all on a credit card. Others knock on the door of hundreds of potential sponsors to pay for their trips while others just decide to suffer immensely on the adventure because of lack of funds (been there, done that). Doesn't it make more sense to build a frugal and thoughtful lifestyle that allows adventures to be more realistic, more often? Chris Mamula joins us today to talk about some very easy and key steps that anyone can do to help make adventures more possible in their lives.Chris is an avid adventurer and has achieved financial independence and decided to retire from physical therapy at age 41, giving him years of possible adventures for himself and his family. His blog: www.caniretireyet.comChris’ book: www.choosefi.com/bookSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 881: How Adventure Helps Us Start Over - Revisited - Sara Schulting-Kranz

Ep. 881: How Adventure Helps Us Start Over - Revisited - Sara Schulting-Kranz

Originally aired - February 22, 2019Seven years ago, Schulting-Kranz was living her life very much within the box. She hosted parties, watched her kids play sports, paddle boarded on the gorgeous coast of California near her home when one day her husband of 17 years admits he's been unfaithful to her for the last 14 years and came out as gay. Her life deteriorated in front of her eyes as she realized everything had to change. Not only was the news devastating, but it also rehashed old memories of being raped at 17 years old, which led to her first son.Sara didn't wallow in her sorrow but took the opportunity to pursue her dream to live a life connected to the outdoors and to show the healing power of nature to as many people as she possibly could.  Thus, Live Boldly Coaching was born and her story of pain has become one of strength and compassion with all sorts of adventures, like earning a Guinness World Record for leading her friend Shawn Cheshire to record the fastest rim-to-rim-to-rim run across the Grand Canyon by a blind person. No matter where she goes, she can now be found on mountaintops all around the country wearing a glamorous pair of bright red high heel shoes.Get out there and live boldly. www.liveboldlycoaching.comInstagram @saraschultingkranzwww.walkthroughthis.com - Documentary WebsiteSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
