Ep. 550: From Near Death Experience to Adventure Belts - Jen Perry

Ep. 550: From Near Death Experience to Adventure Belts - Jen Perry

From Jeltbelt.com:

"If not now, when?"

After surviving a near-death experience and months in the hospital, Jen Perry knew she wanted to do more with her life. In 2014, she founded Jelt as a social enterprise, with the purpose of creating a product that everyone would need, while promoting and encouraging social change.

Functional and socially impactful, Jelt elastic belts are made from recycled plastic bottles and are manufactured in a way that empowers women. Jelt belts are produced by women sewers living on rural Montana ranches and are also manufactured at the Women’s Prison in Billings, Montana, via the Montana Correctional Enterprise Program. This privileged program breaks the cycle of incarceration by interviewing, training and paying the women, giving them the skills and confidence needed to live a more productive life when released.

Since its inception, Jelt has become a Certified B Corporation, is active in 1% For The Planet, and has donated thousands of dollars to charities all over the world. Jelt truly uses business as a force for good.

Ep. 785: Thru-Hiking the Triple Crown in a Kilt - Nic “The Wandering Kiltsman” Cornett

Ep. 785: Thru-Hiking the Triple Crown in a Kilt - Nic “The Wandering Kiltsman” Cornett

Many of us reminisce or daydream of times thru-hiking a spectacular trail. Not as many of us have a kilt on during that daydream. For Nic, the kilt is a beacon of freedom, hope and warmth (you’ll have to listen to learn more about that). After years of living the old 9-5 story, Nic was tired of the way life was going. He decided, on doctors orders, to quit his job and thru-hike the Appalachian Trail to be “reborn” into a life he was more excited about. He has now completed the AT, the Continental Divide Trail and Pacific Crest Trail. We caught up with Nic before his PCT hike. Follow Nic:Www.thewanderingkiltsman.comYoutube.com/c/thewanderingkiltsmanInstagram: @thewanderingkiltsmanIf you’d like to learn amazing outdoor skills taught by world-class outdoor icons to help you get out there and have some fun, go to https://www.crux.academy/asp to get your buy-one-get-one subscription today!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 784: The Kungsleden Trail & Urban Repelling - Revisited - Todd Medeiros

Originally aired April 26, 2018In 2017, Todd Medeiros and girlfriend A.J. hiked the 270-mile Kungsleden Trail in Sweden using snowshoes, crampons and sleds. The Kungsleden or "King's Trail" runs from Abisko to Hemavan in northern Sweden. Even though the trail is a hut trail, the pair decided to do it by camping outdoors. Todd also fills us in on an organization called Over the Edge Global who holds urban repelling events for fundraisers. In urban repelling, people repel from the rooftops of tall buildings. Ep. 779: How to Beat Monday - Mike Chambers

Ep. 779: How to Beat Monday - Mike Chambers

Summiting mountains in South America, bikepacking in the desert and climbing classic big wall routes sound like epic adventures that you’d have to save lots of vacation days for, right? The travel alone would take up at least a day or two, especially for any international trips. Not to mention making arrangements for other responsibilities like kids, pets, work, etc. Mike Chambers and his adventure partner, Jason Antin, think otherwise. In fact, they think you can leave the office on Friday at 5pm, have an adventure of a lifetime and be back at work at 9am on Monday. Is it easy? Of course not. Is it worth it? C’mon now. It all started when Mike was living in Boston and Jason was based in Colorado and the two came up with the bright idea of summiting Mt. Rainier in a true weekend. To the astonishment of the park rangers that hesitantly granted them the permit, their plan worked. Although the morning meetings that Monday were not as productive as they usually were, they both walked away with a pretty epic response to the age-old question, “what did you do this weekend?” Once the concept of Beat Monday was proven, Jason and Mike began dreaming of what else could be possible with this format. Bikerafting, big wall climbing, ultrarunning, and international travel began to fill their weekends and was even made into an OutsideTV series, Beat Monday. Mike is joining us today to tell us about what he’s learned through the Beat Monday mindset and what’s possible for you to beat whatever your Monday is. Follow Mike and Beat Monday below:Beat Monday on OutsideTV@mike_chambers@beatmondayBeatMonday.comSupport Adventure Sports Podcast monthly by going to Patreon.com/AdventureSportsPodcast or make a one-time donation to the show here. Head over to bluefinsupboards.com to check out their insane Black Friday sale where you can get up to $150 off! Ep. 778: Self-Supported Paddleboarding Adventure in Nepal - Revisited - Liam Kirkham

Ep. 778: Self-Supported Paddleboarding Adventure in Nepal - Revisited - Liam Kirkham

Usually, we hear from folks climbing the record-breaking peaks of the Himalayas when we talk about Nepal. However, today is a little different. We’re actually heading downhill and talking about an epic river trip by Liam Kirkham, a veteran guest of the show and a fantastic storyteller. He was previously on episode 344 talking about solo winter kayaking trip through the Grand Canyon.Liam recently became a father and was trying to combat what so many people tell him, “you’ll have no time for that” or “your priorities will change”. He’s learned that they were half right. As a way to ensure he’d do something epic to kickoff fatherhood, he bought a non-refundable plane ticket to Nepal and let the idea of the journey grow from there. A few months earlier he had intended to do a paddleboard trip down the River Thames but life had gotten in the way, however, the remnants of a paddleboard trip were still lingering in his mind. He started reading guidebooks and looking at maps for a river that would be suitable. He also began looking for someone to go with him. After several pints of beer with a good friend (with no experience) he convinced him to join. The adventure was on!Support Adventure Sports Podcast monthly by going to Patreon.com/AdventureSportsPodcast or make a one-time donation to the show here. Head over to bluefinsupboards.com to check out their insane Black Friday sale where you can get up to $150 off!
