What I Told 9-year Old Students About Body Safety, Secrets and Trust

What I Told 9-year Old Students About Body Safety, Secrets and Trust

This was a big moment for me.

It was the first time I’d ever been invited to speak to Year 5 students—children just 9 and 10 years old. And I won’t lie… I was nervous.

This session is about body safety, the importance of speaking up, and how to recognise when something doesn’t feel right. I speak honestly, but gently—because young children deserve to be informed and protected without being overwhelmed.

This isn’t just a lesson—it’s the conversation I wish someone had with me at that age.

👉 If you're a parent, teacher or professional working with children, I hope this gives you ideas and confidence to keep these conversations going.

📌 Topics covered:

- Body boundaries and personal space

- The difference between safe and unsafe touch

- Secrets vs surprises

- Why trust and speaking up matters

📺 Prefer to watch with visuals?

This video includes slides and graphics designed to help young children understand and stay engaged.

▶️ Watch on desktop or full screen for the best experience.
