The Secret Garden Chapter 2

When Mary arrives in England, she is met by Mrs. Medlock, the housekeeper from Misselthwaite Manor. Mrs. Medlock tells Mary that her uncle is a wealthy but unhappy man who rarely sees visitors and does not wish to be bothered. She also explains that the manor is a large, lonely place with many rooms. As Mary listens, she begins to feel both anxious and curious about her new home. The chapter introduces the mysterious setting of Misselthwaite Manor and prepares readers for Mary's new life in Yorkshire. Written by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
