Prophet Series Episode 12 Simeon

Prophet Series Episode 12 Simeon

Welcome back to The Prophet Series!Over the past eleven episodes, we’ve journeyed through the voices of prophetswho boldly proclaimed God’s truth and pointed toward the coming of the Messiah.

Today, in our final episode of Season6, we reflect on a man who never wrote a book of prophecy, never stood beforekings, and never led a nation—yet his moment of prophetic fulfillment is one ofthe most beautiful scenes in the Gospels.

We meet Simeon—the aged, devout manwho waited his whole life to witness God’s promise with his own eyes. In hisstory, we discover the profound gift of hope, patient faith, and what it meansto recognize salvation even when it comes quietly.

Let’s open our hearts to the story ofSimeon, the Watcher of the Promise.

We’re introduced to Simeon in theGospel of Luke, chapter 2. We don’t know his lineage, we don’t know hisoccupation—but we do know this:

Simeon was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. – Luke2:25

Simeon had received a personalrevelation from the Holy Spirit:

“You will not see death before youhave seen the Lord’s Messiah.”

That promise shaped the rhythm of hislife. He lived in holy anticipation—every day entering the temple courts, perhaps wondering, “Is today the day I’ll see Him?”

Then, one ordinary day, a poor couplewalks in. They carry a newborn child, just over a month old. The Holy Spiritmoves in Simeon’s heart, and he knows—this child is the fulfillment of thepromise.

He takes Jesus in his arms and praisesGod with one of the most profound declarations in all of Scripture:

“Now, Lord, You may dismiss Yourservant in peace, for my eyes have seen Your salvation.”

Simeon’s story is one of deep trust—ofwaiting in faith and rejoicing in God’s perfect timing.

Simeon’s story unfolds in one shortscene, yet it contains rich theological and prophetic meaning. Let’s walkthrough it:

He is described as righteous, devout, and filled with the Holy Spirit. His life teaches us the value of quiet, faithful devotion.

Simeon receives a specific promisefrom God—and holds onto it, year after year. Guided by the Spirit, Simeon entersthe temple at the exact moment Jesus is brought in. He takes the child into hisarms and recognizes the Savior.

This prayer has become a treasuredpart of the Church’s evening prayer—his personal praise has become the Church’sliturgy.

Simeon blesses the child, but alsospeaks a sobering word to Mary: “A sword will pierce your soul too.” He seesboth the glory and the suffering that Christ will bring.

Simeon doesn’t just hold theMessiah—he proclaims Him with joy and clarity, recognizing God’s salvation notjust for Israel, but for the entire world.

Let’s reflect on Simeon’s beautifulproclamation from Luke 2:29–32:

“Now, Master, you maylet your servant go in peace,

according to your word,

for my eyes have seenyour salvation,

which you prepared insight of all the peoples,

a light for revelationto the Gentiles,

and glory for yourpeople Israel.”

Episode 02 Anchored in Hope

Episode 02 Anchored in Hope

Welcome, dear listeners, to another soul-nourishing episode of "2 Minutes with the Lord." I'm your host, Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD and today, we embark on a journey to explore a topic that is both comforting and transformative - "Anchored in Hope." The Essence of Hope Let's begin by unraveling the essence of hope and how it is deeply intertwined with our faith. In the book of Romans, the verse 15:13 reminds us: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." These words beautifully encapsulate the idea that hope is not just a human sentiment but a divine gift, a source of joy and peace that flows from our trust in God. To truly grasp the depth of hope, let's envision a ship anchored in a safe harbor during a storm. The anchor keeps the ship steady amidst the raging waves, providing security and preventing it from being carried away by the tempest. Similarly, hope serves as our spiritual anchor, keeping us steadfast in the face of life's storms.

Episode 09 Who is my Neighbour?

Episode 09 Who is my Neighbour?

Welcome, dear listeners, to another episode of our podcast, where we explore stories that touch the depths of our faith and inspire us to be better. I'm your host, Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we delve into the timeless parable of the Good Samaritan. The Parable of the Good Samaritan. Our story today begins with a question posed to Jesus, "Who is my neighbour?" In response, Jesus shared the powerful parable of the Good Samaritan, found in the New Testament in Luke 10:25-37. In this parable, a man is beaten, robbed, and left for dead on the side of the road. Passersby, including a priest and a Levite, ignore him. It's a Samaritan, a person from a despised group, who shows compassion, tends to the wounded man's injuries, and ensures his safety. This story teaches us about the boundless nature of compassion and the call to love our neighbour as ourselves. Lessons from the Compassionate Samaritan The parable of the Good Samaritan imparts several profound lessons: 1. Compassion Knows No Boundaries: True compassion transcends social, racial, and cultural barriers. It reminds us that kindness should extend to all, regardless of our differences. 2. Taking Action: The Samaritan didn't just feel sorry for the injured man; he took action. This teaches us the importance of not just empathising but also helping those in need. 3. Breaking Stereotypes: The story challenges stereotypes and biases. It reminds us that goodness can be found in unexpected places. I remember a group of healthcare workers who, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, went above and beyond to care for patients, often risking their own health. Their dedication and compassion in the face of adversity exemplified the spirit of the Good Samaritan. The parable of the Good Samaritan continues to inspire acts of kindness and compassion in our modern world. Countless individuals and organisations are following in the footsteps of the Samaritan, making a positive impact on their communities. The parable of the Good Samaritan challenges us to reflect on our own lives and ask, "Am I being a Good Samaritan in my daily interactions?" As we conclude this episode on the Good Samaritan, may you carry with you the timeless wisdom of this parable—that compassion knows no boundaries and that we are all called to be good neighbours to one another. Thank you for joining us on this journey through a story that continues to inspire acts of kindness and compassion. May the parable of the Good Samaritan guide our actions, reminding us that the world can be a better place when we choose to be Good Samaritans in our own lives. Until we meet again to explore more stories that touch our hearts and inspire us to make a difference, may your days be filled with the spirit of the Good Samaritan, ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
