Finding the dressing room: Forest 0-2 Cardiff - the 1865 Forest Ramble

Finding the dressing room: Forest 0-2 Cardiff - the 1865 Forest Ramble

This episode could have been called "The Hangover Part 2", as two ludicrously soft goals in the first half gifted the game to Cardiff, and Forest looked just as poor as they had done against Barnsley and QPR. Except there were signs of life as the half-time Lucozade kicked in; the first-half tactical switch that saw Joe Lolley replaced by Lyle Taylor actually paid dividends as the Cardiff defence had more to think about, and the movement and guile of Luke Freeman made more of an impression as he came in from the right hand side, rather than playing as an orthodox number 10. Sure, Cardiff could take their foot off the gas as they probably had the points in the bag already, but Forest looked more energetic, had more forward movement and actually created chances, and at least warmed the gloves of Cardiff's Alex Smithies. Still no goals, and still no points, so there's a long way to go; but the second half performance may have helped the confidence of players, manager and supporters. Like what you hear? FOREST ARE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE! Huddersfield 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

FOREST ARE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE! Huddersfield 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

It was the big day out and Forest have done it! A first half own goal from Levi Colwill, under pressure from Ryan Yates, gave the Reds a slender advantage. In truth Forest were the better team in the first half and Yates should have given them the lead with a header which went just wide. Naturally, the Terriers came back at us, and although they didn't have many clear efforts on goal, they will feel aggrieved that they didn't get at least one penalty, even with VAR. On a special day, we have a special match report, with Rich Ferraro and Baz bringing you thoughts and reflections from before, during and after the game, along with roving reporter the Maradona of the Midlands, and some of the atmosphere from the Red end of Wembley - do visit our social media for more clips (see link below). *Apologies to podcast subscribers using Apple. There was a problem with our feed but hopefully this has now been fixed. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz, Steven Toplis, The Maradona Of The Midlands and Tom Newton to discuss the rollercoaster of emotions during and after the semi-finals against Sheffield United, and whether we have "pre-traumatic stress disorder" (c. Nick Miller, 2022). Naturally, we discuss the importance of belief and PMA (positive mental attitude). We are joined by guests including Hal from The Sheffield United Way to reflect upon the semi-final, and the aftermatch shenanigans; and Brady from And He Takes That Chance to get the lowdown on what Forest should expect from The Terriers at Wembley. We'll be back after the big match with a review of the match, and end-of-term debrief. By the time the season is over we will have recorded 75 podcasts this season; thank you so much for joining us. EFL Playoff Semi Final 2nd leg: Nottingham Forest 1-2 Sheffield United (Forest win 3-2 on penalties)

EFL Playoff Semi Final 2nd leg: Nottingham Forest 1-2 Sheffield United (Forest win 3-2 on penalties)

A dramatic night at the City Ground, as Sheffield United produced a spirited performance to beat the Reds 2-1 on the night, which meant extra time and eventually penalties. Brennan Johnson emulated his dad by scoring in both legs of a play-off semi final against the Blades, but second half goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and John Fleck meant that it was honours even on aggregate. Brice Samba was the hero, with a save late in extra time to deny Iliman Ndiaye a certain winner, and then three penalty saves in the shootout; Johnson, Cafu and Cook all buried their spotkicks before Joe Lolley's miss for the Reds, but Samba denied Gibbs-White to prompt a pitch invasion. Rich Ferraro and Baz report on the good, the bad and the ugly (the Billy Sharp incident), with sore throats and aching heads having just returned from the match. We will have more considered thoughts for you at the weekend, when we will also preview the play-off final! See you at Wembley. EFL Playoff Semi Final: Sheffield United 1-2 Nottingham Forest

EFL Playoff Semi Final: Sheffield United 1-2 Nottingham Forest

A scintillating Forest performance saw the Reds carry a slender advantage into Tuesday's home leg. In truth, the away team should have put the match to bed in the first half, with a number of good chances bringing near misses and decent saves from Wes Foderingham (especially the double save from Surridge and Johnson). However, Forest will be delighted, having taken an early lead from Jack Colback and then doubled the advantage with Brennan Johnson's cool finish after good work from Joe Lolley. Sander Berge scored a soft late goal from a corner to give the Blades hope for the second leg (and give Paul Heckingbottom the chance to engage in some amateur mind games), but if Forest can reproduce their attacking display from today, they will be confident about the prospects of making the final. Tom Newton was at the game, and reports back in conversation with Steven Toplis. Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United: the play-offs revisited

Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United: the play-offs revisited

If you're of a nervous disposition, you might want to give this one a miss! A couple of years ago, during the nationwide lockdown, Rich Ferraro, Steven Toplis and the Maradona of the Midlands reviewed Forest's previous play-off campaigns, including the classic but heartbreaking encounters with Sheffield United in 2003. We'll be back with our match reports from both of this year's semi-finals against the Blades, and will be hoping for better fortune this time. "No more 2003": The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, March 2022

Sheffield United in a two-legged Championship play-off semi-final? Nothing can go wrong there, can it? In our 70th podcast of the season (phew), we review the season just gone, thinking about the Steve Cooper Revolution, and how his tactics and management have made such a huge difference to our team's fortunes; we hear from a Blades fan and discuss how we definitely don't have PTSD from 19 years ago; and on a more positive note we choose our goals of the season, and players of the season. Even amongst all of that, there is time for a discussion about VAR and whether it would have made a positive difference to Forest's season, as well as hearing from Jeremy Davies with his final sketch this term. We also have time for some news from Fanhub and our final giveaway of the season: we will give out some Forest mugs, courtesy of our friends at The Terrace - just post a lovely review of our podcast on your app of choice, and send us a screenshot to forestramble@gmail.com by 6pm on Friday 20th May, and we will select four lucky winners that weekend. Hull City 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

Hull City 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

After a sterling run of results throughout April, some Reds fans would say that this has been a disappointing week to end the season, but in the space of 39 games Steve Cooper has turned the Reds around from relegation certainties to a place in the play-offs, where they will face Sheffield United. Rich Ferraro and Tom Newton discuss the performance of a much-changed Forest team, as the gaffer took the chance to rest many of his first choice XI (and he said that most of them were carrying injuries). As a result, the performance had an end-of-season, slightly disjointed feel, but the away side will still feel like they should have won the game as they took the lead through Brennan Johnson's stoppage time penalty, before Lewie Coyle (or was it Keane Lewis-Potter?) equalised for Hull just a minute later to consign the Reds to fourth position and a trip to Bramall Lane. We also hear the views of YouTuber Old Grandpa Joe, providing a Hull City perspective.
