Forest were comprehensively beaten in the end by a Manchester United team who took an early lead through Marcus Rashford, before goals at the end of each half by Weghorst and Fernandes sealed the deal. However, the Reds did have a really good spell in the first half, and it could have been so different if Sam Surridge's equaliser had stood when Forest were 1-0 down; as it was, VAR ruled that the striker's shoelace was offside. A late goal by sub Sam Surridge earned the Reds a share of the spoils away at Bournemouth. The hosts had taken a first half lead and although the Reds had a good number of efforts on goal, Ryan Yates' first half header was ruled out for an offside. Even when Surridge did equalise, VAR had to check for offside, but the former Bournemouth man's goal stood. This felt like a symbolic result after Forest got battered at the King Power Stadium a few months ago, as a measure of how far the Reds have come. Two goals from Brennan Johnson decided the match, the first after VAR intervened on an offside call, and the second from a frankly sexy counter-attack. A dramatic night at the City Ground saw tempers flare, especially at the end after Forest won a penalty shootout to progress to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. Wolves will argue that they were marginally the better team in normal time, forcing a number of saves from Dean Henderson and having a penalty claim that falls into the "seen them given" category. Eleven changes to the starting line-up and most of them underperformed as Forest crashed to a deserved FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship strugglers Blackpool. It was a big night for Forest - not quite must-win, but certainly must-not-lose against bottom of the table Southampton. The Reds (wearing yellow) duly took all three points, courtesy of Taiwo Awoniyi's first half goal. Although the away team did not play amazingly, the Saints could offer absolutely nothing and Dean Henderson didn't have to make a save as Forest got their first away win this century in the Premier League. It felt a little bleak when Forest managed to concede yet another soft goal in the first half, but they came out fighting after the break to really take the game to Chelsea; Morgan Gibbs-White was unlucky with a 20 yard thunderbolt, and the number 10's corner caused havoc in the box, and Serge Aurier took advantage to score his first goal for the club. In the end, Forest were disappointed not to get the win which would have elevated them out of the drop zone.
