In reality, the best team won, although it was a match that seemed to hang on a series of incidents: Murillo's own goal, Chris Wood's miss, Maddison's punch and Spurs' half-time subs. After a slow start, Forest actually played quite well for much of the first half, but the natural order was restored in the second period. It could have been so much worse as a tepid first half performance drew the ire of the fans, but the introduction of Gio Reyna on 60 minutes brought instant dividends, as the young American fed Morgan Gibbs-White, who in turn played it into the box where Chris Wood's clever header drew Forest level.
