Gutted but proud, Steve Cooper's Reds gave Liverpool a run for their money and could have snatched a result. In the tightest quarter-final of the weekend, Forest had enough chances to win this but were thwarted by a well-taken goal by Diogo Jota, just after Philip Zinckernagel should have put the Reds in the lead. Jota probably was onside, and the challenge by Allison on Ryan Yates probably wasn't a penalty, but it didn't stop the accusations about LiVARpool; as Cooper said, it would have been interesting to see what decisions would have been made at the other end of the pitch. A blistering comeback from Forest was kickstarted by a thunderbastard from Djed Spence, as Forest eventually stteamrollered a stubborn and niggly QPR side. In a match that was another great advert for the Championship, despite a torrential downpour and a soggy pitch, Forest showed their ability throughout, but it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play when Andre Gray ran between the lines, converting Ilias Chair's excellent throughball from a tight angle. For all that Forest were trying to overcome the shirt pulling and constant niggles, it needed something special to get the Reds back in the match, as Djedmond Spence conjured up a swerving shot into the top corner. After that, it still could have swung either way, but the forces of footballing good prevailed as Ryan Yates' deflected effort from a corner hit home, and then Brennan Johnson sealed the victory after sub Cafu's effort was well-saved following a counter-attack by subs Joe Lolley and Sam Surridge. Two goals from Keinan Davis set Forest on their way to an emphatic victory against relegation-threatened Reading. The Reds couldn't have made a better start, with Joe Worrall's throughball, Djed Spence's cross and Davis' turn and finish putting the home team in the lead after just 17 seconds! However, the rest of the first half was flat at best, with Ethan Horvath having to make a crucial save and Forest players struggling to play on the front foot. Max Lowe's enforced substitution enabled a tactical tweak, with sub Cafu playing in the hole, enabling Jimmy Garner to drop back into central midfield, and The Reds reaped the benefits in the second half. All the goals were tidy, with Yates and Surridge putting the seal on the victory, but it was the second goal that got everyone talking: Davis received the ball with his back to goal 25 yards out, and in one move he turned and shrugged off three men, before approaching the box and curling home a fine finish. Power, pace, confidence and finesse - this goal was Collymore-esque. The game ended on a sombre note however, as Davis' rival for man of the match, Steve Cook, limped off with a painful looking injury, and with all subs used, Forest finished the game with ten men. In another televised match that will get casual football fans wanting to watch the Championship, Forest progressed to the quarter finals of the FA Cup at the expense of play-off rivals Huddersfield. After a strong start, Sam Surridge scored a brilliant goal which was wrongly disallowed for offside, and there were echoes of the league match against the Terriers when Tom Lees headed home barely two minutes later. The Reds looked shell-shocked but regained their composure, with Ryan Yates' lungbusting run leading to Surridge's emphatic finish to equalise, and the home team then took the lead before half-time when Yates' strong header made the net bulge. The second half was slightly more scrappy but still combative, as sub Danny Ward warmed Ethan Horvath's gloves twice, while Spence and Garner both put the ball over the bar when it looked easier to score. Overall, a good performance and a great result, cementing a quarter final at home to Liverpool. This was a great advert for The Championship, as Ryan Yates' stoppage-time goal rescued a point for the Reds, who had trailed to Billy Sharp's 70th minute header. In truth, Forest should have wrapped it up before the Blades scored, with decent chances for Davis, Zinckernagel and Cook; Brennan Johnson will also go back to practising penalties at the training ground as his first half spot kick was easily saved by Wes Foderingham. It was 70 minutes of wondering how we hadn't scored, and then 25 minutes of fearing that we would get battered; but good saves by Ethan Horvath, along with great tackles by Cook and Zinckernagel (yes, really), and a poor pass from Daniel Jebbison gave the Reds the opportunity to snatch a share of the spoils right at the death.
