Ep 5: What Is Pilates and What Are the Benefits?

The human body is designed for movement. Research shows that being inactive for too many hours each day is a severe health risk. Building a strong, resilient, mobile body plays a critical role in allowing us to continue living the life we desire without hesitation for years to come.

Having come from a world of dance and athletics my entire life, movement is like a second language to me. When I found Pilates, I gained a new perspective on how my body functioned and a deep appreciation of the complexity and simplicity of what physical well-being really meant.

But what exactly is Pilates? How is it different from yoga or other forms of exercise? You can search for information online, but I want to share what I know about Pilates based on my knowledge and experience as a Pilates instructor.

So join me in today's episode of the Modern Body Podcast as I answer the most common questions about Pilates and its benefits.

"Pilates really provides as well a lot of longevity, which I think is so wonderful, to start thinking about our health span in terms of also our lifespan. Like how long are we gonna be able to move and keep moving for the duration of our life, not just right now in this present moment." ~ Aly DiRoma
