Is “perfect posture” really a thing—or just a wellness myth in disguise?

In this episode of Modern Body: Pilates & Movement for Life, Aly DiRoma unpacks one of the most common misconceptions in movement culture: the idea that there’s one ideal way to stand, sit, or move through the world. With a blend of practical insights and personal anecdotes, Aly offers a refreshing perspective that ditches rigidity and embraces adaptability.

You’ll explore the five major influences on posture—gravity, daily routines, habitual patterns, stress, and genetics—and discover why your “bad posture” might actually just be your body doing its best to support you.

Aly doesn’t stop at theory. She walks you through how to actually assess your own posture in the moment, then explains how Pilates supports postural change by rebalancing soft tissue (think fascia, muscles, and tendons—not just bones). Whether you’re standing at the stove, holding a baby on one hip, or squatting a barbell, your posture is always in motion—and that’s a good thing.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • What posture really is—and how your body constantly adapts to gravity
  • The surprising role of everyday habits in shaping your stance
  • How to recognize postural imbalances (hint: start with your hips)
  • Why Pilates is a gentle but powerful tool for postural rebalancing
  • How to move with less tension, more confidence, and way fewer rules

Whether you’re deep into your Pilates journey or just beginning to tune into your body, this episode will leave you with a fresh understanding of movement, alignment, and what it truly means to stand strong.
